January 24, 2023, 10:36:12 PM
It's hard to believe, but it's been a year now since Vadim Kraichuk (wootz) left us. We owe him a lot for his studies and ideas. RIP

It depends where you are located, you may get the CBN wheels directly from the chinese producer https://www.forever-superabrasives.com/solution/41.html

I would use Calcapp instead. https://connect.calcapp.net/?app=qq0pg0#/

Very easy to use.

Hello Adam,
thank you for the Youtube address. The comment in the video is clear: Not for practical use, just for fun!

I would be interested to see a knife with a 10 mm spine.

The software made by cbwx34 is an alternative.

You should not use diamond pastes on felt wheels, only diamond solutions in alcohol. See Vadim's video https://youtu.be/-HBpsQn7frY

On www.knifegrinders.com.au you find under "Equipment we use" a detailed description "Controlled-Angle Setup for Paper Wheels". And the buffer/grinder should be a half-speed grinder as with the full speed grinder the chance to overheat the blade is high.

What is your intention to use paper wheels on a grinder? A Tormek with adequate wheels gives great results.

darita,
since I follow the sharpening protocol of Vadim:  CBN wheels > leather wheel PA70 > felt wheel 1µm diamond > leather wheel with chromium oxide I constantly get results better 100 BESS with all the usual kitchen knife steels. And this is just the prove that I removed the burr and I get long lasting sharpness.

Keep on studying!

darita,

the weight of my unused felt wheel form Purui Polishing Products C. is 1496 grams. The weight of the felt wheel from Knife Grinders after about 300 knives is 1472 grams. Colour, the "feeling" and the stamp "rock hard" are identical.  For me both wheels are the same product.

If Knife Grinders still would offer this product I for sure would not publish this information!

Hello darita, a felt wheel of 2" width is too thick.

On YouTube https://youtu.be/5iqnvD8_M2k starting 8:44 min. Vadim explains which felt hardness to choose. 0,6 g/cm3 to 0,8 g/cm3 is fine.
