Hi Enrico,

there must be a difference in the angle readings because you are measuring in two different planes.
Angles.jpg
With the WM-200 you measure along the side "b", with the KS-123 along the central tangent line.

For example, on a Global knife, I measured the thickness of the spine to be 1.2 mm, so "a" is 0.6 mm. The value for "b" is 20 mm.

The angle for the difference of the planes is calculated with the formula
angle= arctan (opposite "a" divided by adjacent "b"),
with the given values
arctan (0.6/20) = arctan (0.03) = 0.0299910049 rad, converted to degrees gives 1.72°.

If you want to get an angle of 15°, set KS-123 to 15°, but set WM-200 to 16.72° (it will be difficult to be that precise!!).

Hope this helps.

Knife Sharpening / Re: CBN wheels

Thank you for your comment. I agree that Zhengzhou Ruizuan Diamond Tools will be the manufacturer. But through Alibaba an end user can't purchase these wheels. Alibaba is B2B business.

So forever-superabrasives is the supplier for end users. Years ago I asked forever-superabrasives for a quote and they directed me to Schleifjunkies in Germany. Nowadays you can buy direct frum forever or in Germany through Amazon with forever as the supplier.

I am very happy with these wheels.

A source for the CBN wheels for Tormek is https://www.forever-superabrasives.com/CBN-Wheels-for-Tormek.html

I am sure that this is the company which supplied Knifegrinders with CBN wheels as you can see on their page a video which is identical with Vadims video (Knifegrinders) ,,How to sharpen curved knives on our CBN wheels" at  8:16 min. Hope this helps!

Hello kwakster, as I can see there are different Blue Wonder solutions available. Which one are you using?

Hello Ken,

my favourite method of checking for burrs is the "Q-tip test". Hold the knife with the blade horizontal and the side where the burr is expected to be facing up. Then let a Q-tip glide along the edge. If there is a burr, the Q-tip will be held by the burr (see photo). If there is no burr, the Q-tip will drop. This is also useful for checking for burrs after honing.

Knife Sharpening / Titanium Cutting Boards
September 28, 2024, 08:43:57 PM
Hello friends,

lately I've been seeing more and more advertisements for titanium cutting boards. They are easy to clean, antibacterial and do not damage the cutting edge because titanium is softer than steel.

I have my doubts about that. My search in the forum has not got me any further. Does anyone have any positive or negative experiences with these titanium chopping boards?

Greetings from Germany

Hi Skärparn,
do you sharpen by moving the knife back and forth? It seems to be the problem of the middle overgrinding.

Always sharpen from the handle to the tip.

Knife Sharpening / Re: New angle jig KS-123

Is it really so important that the angle is very precise? I think it is important to get the same angle from grinding to grinding to avoid unnecessary material waist. For the use of the knife it makes no difference if the angle is 14, 15 or 16 degrees.

Do you always sharpen in one direction from the heel to the tip or do you sharpen back and forth? Sharpening in two directions would over-grind the middle part of the knife.

There is a post by "tomerus" on October 10, 2017 with very helpful comments. It's worth reading, even though it's not specific to T1.

I purchased one felt wheel in December 2022 and one in March 2023. Price was US$ 75 plus US$ 25 air shipping plus import duties. The wheels arrived two or three weeks after prepayment.

Only use solutions of diamonds in alcohol as water based solutions will change the properties of the felt.

I like these wheels and I get good results!
