Ken,
I have the DWF - 200 wheel with the T2 machine. I am not keen on the machine, but love the wheel.

Am I able to put the DWF - 200 wheel ( T4 Size ) on to my T7 to try it out ???

I await your educated reply as usual my friend.

At the risk of agreeing with CB  :) ,I must say I think his advice is correct.

That's a keeper!!!  ;)
I agree with Ken. I have the new T2- it does an amazing edge, especially on globals, sushi knives etc.
However!! I have also got the T7 ( same as the T4, just the bigger brother ) and I use the black stone ( SB250 )  Along with the stone grader ( SP650 ) it will give the same end result. An amazing super sharp edge that will shave the hairs off of your arm. as does the T2.

The T4 and the T7 can do so much more. personally, go for the T4 and T7. Believe me, I have thrown a good few thousand pounds at different machines for knife grinding over the years from many different companies.  My GO TO machine, always comes back to my trusty T7.
( or the T4 if you are not in the commercial side) It does the same job.

I have learned the hard way and the expensive way. I tried to do it on my own.
Not recommended .

Here is my advice to any new people wanting to start a sharpening business---or just as a hobby.

For a sharpening  business.---

1] go to the recommended training  school as suggested on this forum. (Robin in Bath for UK )

2] do what he tells you---it is right ---- he knows his stuff.

I have spent over 4 times more than what the training school costs--- trying to do it on my own and save money!!!

THE INTERMEDIATE SOLUTION

1] Buy the DVD as recommended by Ken and many others on this forum.
2] buy the Tormek T4 or T7 ---or any new ones they might produce. ( subject to our forum )

FINALY
1] Learn from your mistakes.
2] Move on and better your skill set.
3] Be the best you can be.

I Have Never Had A Better Machine Than The TORMEK.
Best of luck

Welcome to the forum, Cutit.

At the risk of agreeing with CB  :) ,I must say I think his advice is correct. The T2 and T4 share the same frame and most of the parts. The T2 is not designed primarily for knives; it is exclusively designed for knives. Both the T2 and the T4 will sharpen knives. Where you will see the difference is when you need to sharpen a pair of scissors. The T4 is a full fledged Tormek. The T2 is a one trick pony. Admittedly, it does that one trick very well, however, that is all it does.

For home use, the T4 is definitely more versatile. The new special edition bushcraft T4 is the best price I have seen since it was originally introduced. Plan on purchasing a TT-50 truing tool with it; you will need one. All grinding wheels must be retrued occasionally, including Tormek wheels. The T4 is a nice machine, ideal for home use. I have one and like it.

Hi, its Bobl. long time no speak. Haha. I just bought the T2, silly me got it from a danish website, probs. cost more instead of a german site. I paid close on to £700 for it, where as a U.S. site , it would be $599 . My own fault.
Anyway Tormekers, I would like to ask for your help. Where can I get a spare grinding wheel, also new stropping wheel ( Which is great by the way ) . I do feel that the grinding wheel is a little too fine for my liking. What are the thoughts out there?
I have only just received the machine and have been sharpening with it today on my usual knife sharpening route.
any sharpening businesses out there that are using the T2 , please reply as to your experiences.
I am currently keeping a log as to how long the wheel will last and the volume of knives it can realistically go through, before a replacement or replated wheel needs to be used. I look forward to the replies.

Ken,
would that be of a similar or same thing that is on the T2 ??

I use Whal ( probs spelt it wrong ) clipper oil. This works great and stops the honing compound ending up chalky.

General Tormek Questions / Re: chisel sharpening

Thanks Ken and all the guys, I now feel confident, as a result of your dialog, to go ahead and sharpen chisels. I honestly thought I was doing it wrong because of the builder. I now know it was the lack of experience to confidently rebut what he was saying. I now have the knowledge and I expect to add more value to my service now.

Here is a new one Ken.
A friend of mine who is a plasterer, had a couple of bad nicks in his plastering trowel, ( Must have caught a nail or badly used it )  he knows I am a knife sharpener and also has the Tormek T7  as well as other machines, so he asked me if I could sort out the nick.

You know, I tried so hard on the T7 to grind as opposed to sharpen this thing. I actually managed accidentally to put a sharp edge on it. However, he is so happy the edge has gone and he says the plastering is so much smoother because of it.

So, there is a new use for the amazing T7.

Any of you guys had an experience similar with a tool or object you wouldnt have thought possible.??

General Tormek Questions / chisel sharpening
February 02, 2017, 11:37:43 PM
As you know, I am a knife sharpener and not a chisel sharpener.
a few years ago, when I got my T7, I had a customer who asked if I can sharpen chisels. I was at this time proficient with the T7 on knives professionally.  I thought I could add an extra string to my bow by sharpening chisels too. So, I looked at the videos for the Tormek T7 for sharpening a chisel. I thought I did a great job. Until the builder told me that I had not added an extra bevel from the main edge that the Tormek had made.
( Why did the video not do or show this )
Consequently, I have been turning away chisel work.
The Video shows that you just need to sharpen one angle and not to put a second edge at a slightly higher angle.
I have asked builders and some woodworkers if the chisel should have one angle and one edge or one angle and 2 edges. They all said the chisel should have a one angle and a small bevel on the end of the chisel.
Can I ask why all the tormek training videos do not tell you this???

looking forward to more results Ken.

GUYS,
Dont get me wrong here.
I love my Tormek
I Love the wheels SG250 etc
My only problem is that I have to use a water bath to make it work.
I have a small van ( Fiat Doblo ) converted behind the passenger seats ( Its also my family car, the wife wont let me get a proper van )
I do not have a sink or room to be using containers of water.
I only ask about the C.B.N. because it is a dry grind.
I am a knife sharpener only.
That is why I liked the idea of the T2

All said and done, I am happy with my T7 and I know it is a great machine, I just want a wheel that does not need a angle master, seperate jigs or a water bath.
I think what I need is a developed T2 for high volume knife sharpening.
I hope you have not taken my comments in a negative way. I believe that Tormek can produce such a machine and would click in to a massive market if they focus on a developed T2.

What do you think Stig?
