i putt ur Data in my App and what comes out???

please don't get me wrong but that's exactly what I'm trying to explain to you but I've fallen on deaf ears so far :) if I want to use ur calculator I first have to take a course to understand everything. it could all be so simple :). so again you can shoot at sparrows with cannons or why simple if u can make it complicated. keep it simple is the goal. as you see on the result it really works.
with mine one sentence is enough to explain the whole thing i do not need a drawing and not almost a whole page to explain it :)

Knife Sharpening / Re: Wire edge?

I guess you could say you got lost.
a middle class  knife dont need a 1000 grit cbn. after the 400 grit cbn go to the felt wheel with about 1 degree more. then go to the leather with the right degree and you will probably get better results than after all the work you have done.
now of course the reasoning......... 2 things i would never do. sharpening a middle class knife with 12 degrees and a high end treatment like you tried it......why????? the steel is much too soft for such a treatment, the cutting edge with 12 degrees is much too fine so you don't remove the burr but you keep putting it back. don't experiment with such knives but if you want them to be very sharp for the moment sharpen 15 degrees but even better with middle class knives that are in daily use an angle of 20 degrees. this keeps its stability and sharpness for a long time.

Hanns,

I like your video. As you state, the English subtitles are not perfect, however, since my great grand parents emigrated from Germany in the 1870s, your subtitles are vastly better than my nicht gut Deutsch.

I have been searching for coarser grinding wheels for several years. The selection for Tormek is much better now than in the past. I think your 80 grit wheel is a useful addition to the sharpening arsenal, however, I would not recommend it as a primary wheel for knife sharpening. For most users, I would add it only after I had the 400 and 160 grit wheels.

Ken

Ken u can go in one stepp from 80 to 400
u have to make 1-2 more passes on the 400 to get same edge than if u come from 160 grit but 80 is way more aggressive :)
i cant show no more, have send this wheel after the test to a guy in Sweden :)
but get new batch end next week i think.
many time i was asked witch is the best allaround wheel and i cant find any good answer because all depends on what u wanna grind.
if u have always knifes in good shape the 400 is ideal but from this moment u have chips or want to change maybe from 20 to 15 deg. u need 160 too.
the 80 grit is really very aggressive and u need that not often, but i dont wanna give it away :)

cheers
Hanns

BTW on Day i will make a video in english to make u guys laughing :)

also my old ston es i use 1 year now gind well. maybe the grit change for the 160 into a 250 the 400 into a 600 and the 1000 into a 1200
but all does a good work after 1 year
cheers Hanns
BTW i sell them yesterday :)

@cbwx34

i agree with you 100% about the moves over the wheel. that's why i also said probably 3 or maybe even 2 moves would have been enough. however, i grind with the 80 grit for the first time and so i'm forgiven. :)
i can only say in conclusion that the wheels do a great job.

maybe there are some of you who are interested in how CBN-Wheels work.
I did a test where I made extra deep notches in the cutting edge to test my new 80 Grit CBN-Wheel. So far I have only used the 160 grit wheel. The 80 grit is awesome. with only 4 moves in each direction all the deep notches were removed. I even think that 3 moves would have been enough.

If you like, take a look. English subtitles are in. They are not perfect but they work. :)

don't get me wrong, i think your calculator is great, but i think you overtax people. too much information and too many parameters. I'm thinking more about making it simple and clear.

you're right, it's the same in principle but with the laser line i have a great aid on the stone when i want to sharpen strongly curved edges to always keep the same angle by turning only on the line. that makes a big difference. i can hit 2 flies with one flap
#73
Hello, Ken,
This is where I start with the laser method. If you have to measure again after every knife as mentioned above, it is time consuming and not necessary. Measuring once at an angle of your choice and then setting the correct toolbar height is enough. All the following similarly sized knives can be loosely inserted into the JIG without measuring. When I place the JIG on the stone, I can align my knife with the laser line, which means my desired angle, and screw it tightly into place. This saves me having to measure the following knives. This should bring a clear time advantage when I am sharpening knives at farmers' markets, for example.

Regards hanns

uupppsssss this works of course only if ur wheels all have the same diameter like my cbn wheels

@ Andrew

watch at 1 minute i use before each test on the Bess a clamp with a 100 gramm weight on it to have always the same tension.
i saw this at sharpco`s site and use it since then because it was logic 4me to do that and eliminate another error source.
if u watch at sec. 45 u will see
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yO7m-h-oOCQ&t=43s

the whole measurement has physically something to do with the inertia of the mass. therefore you will get different results depending on how fast you press.

In principle it does not matter which medium you use because the results are not comparable. It depends on several factors that have too many sources of error to compare better values. On my youtube channel I have made an example video. With the same knife you can compare values from 50 to 120 bess. This device is great but only to test yourself. Comparing with others is very inaccurate.
So it dont matter witch medium u use. Use it 4 urselve.
