so, it is done. the clip closing on both sides is finished. The rubber inlay is changeable, so everybody can put in the rubber (harder or softer) he prefers. with the glued in rubber the knife holds well. finally the same angle from both sides, no matter how thick the knife is. knives up to 12mm thick can be clamped. my goal was to produce the clamp under 100.-€. this will not be possible in the long run because the whole thing is extremely complex in production and assembly. however, i will stand by my word and sell the clamp as a promo until the end of 2020 for 99.-€. after that the price will be 119.-€.

if i calculate that you need at least 3 machined clamps for the different knife thicknesses, from which you cut out some material in 0.5 mm steps from the fixed part of the tormek clamp, the price is relativised very quickly. especially since you still don't have exactly the same angle, but only approximately. :)

Knife Sharpening / new`s from the part front

when it comes to the length of the workpiece, everyone has their own method. i used mine once. the block at the top can be fixed and always has a right angle. you can use it to align the cutting edge of the knife. of course, you can also use it to clamp several knives in a row and then sharpen them without having to adjust the height of the toolbar because you always have the same length of the workpiece. this makes the work much easier.

Knife Sharpening / Re: Using the Japanese Wheel
November 01, 2020, 07:22:55 PM
Hi,
2 things....
first 2° more on the leather is to much. normaly 1 to 1.5 max is way enought.
second... japanese produces a burr like all grindstones, yes its mor finer like the 1000 Grit but u have one.
Japanese has no effect on sharpnes at all but..... with no other stone or CBN or Diamond u will get this mirror finish that japanese will give u.
yes use Japanese with same angle as u grind

Knife Sharpening / Re: Why Felt is Best for Deburring

Ok Ken I understand.
So to keep it short and sweet.... the statement that a 90g felt wheel only works for hard knives is wrong.

strangely enough i have been trying for months to use a felt wheel for this purpose. unfortunately people always assume that i only want to sell the things from my store. but when Vadim says something like that it seems not to be the case. there is no better way to remove your existing burrs. also the shaft extension is a thing that i have been selling for months. in the meantime i do without the Tormekleder completely and use the rockhard felt wheel with a coating of 1 micron diamond spray instead. after that a few passes over a hanging leather with 0,25 micron and your knife can split hairs. but be careful to grind a 1-1,5° higher angle on the felt wheel to remove the burr completely.

it`s very easy to grind a convex knife if u use a pin pivot and a laser
way more difficult to grind a concave wether u have rounded edges on the stone

as the others say ....need to see how much the blade makes a curve.
maybe u cant only lift the handle, maybe u have to pivot also.

Knife Sharpening / Re: WHY 139mm?
September 13, 2020, 08:23:09 AM
U right.... I mean u save a lot of time with my method to messure only the first knife and all the next clamp on the laserline. But this is also only possible if u have same wheeldiameter like u have with diamond or CBN Wheels. Then u can switch the wheels like u want with always the same adjustment

as always Ken
everyone should do that what he likes most.
like the old saying, never change a running system :)

or you can make it easy for yourself by using a laser line and clamping your knife on the stone by aligning it with the laser line and then clamping it. this way you can clamp any knife without measuring and always have your predefined angle.

Knife Sharpening / Re: news from the developers front
September 11, 2020, 08:02:06 AM
Many thanks for the inspiring ideas. We know about the problem of jamming. Of course this must be taken into account. The shape itself should not be the problem, but the force with which the clamp holds the knife. It may be that we have to get away from this idea completely and think of something else. A big problem is quite simply that of price. In my opinion, such a clamp should not cost more than €100. This would probably be in a still reasonable relation to the use. With the hourly wages which are demanded here in Germany this is an absolute challenge. You can be however safe that I do not give up yet so fast on a reasonable in addition, payable solution to work. I have another meeting with my developer today and we will deal with the mentioned problems. I will report further. Keep coming back with your suggestions and objections. The goal should be to develop a reasonable working tool.
