Knife Sharpening / 8Cr13MoV making me crazy
December 08, 2023, 11:16:29 PM
I have been trying to sharpen a friend's Kershaw 1830 with 8Cr13MoV steel.
I have sharpening for several years with pretty good success (sub100 BESS as a consistent goal).
This knife is making me crazy.
I have set a 15deg bevel(30deg included) on a T8 with a CBN80.
I have been trying to raise a burr with a CBN160 wet, edge leading, and cannot.
I have reverted to the SG 250 (coarse) - to no avail.
Any advise would be a appreciated

Hello
I am interested in your grinding angle calculation program.
I am basically computer illiterate.
Is there an application instruction available?
I would like password please.
It there is any fee involved to cover your time?
If so, I will gladly pay.
Thank you
I have been using the Knife Grinder program will good success, but it is no longer available or supported.

Knife Sharpening / Bevel angle calculations
April 08, 2023, 03:50:36 PM
I have been held hostage by using Vadim's angle calculation program.
I had the app on my IPhone but it went swimming.
Knife Grinder website is still up but I believe no longer supported
The app is no longer available and the tech experts could not transfer it to my new phone.
I have read a little about (I believe "TormekCalc"?) and would like to find a new program for precision bevel grinding.
Would appreciate any advice/guidance from the forum.
Thanks

Knife Sharpening / Re: Dr. Vadim Kraichuk

I found Dr Kraichuk after a friend gave me an old T4 that started my journey down the knife sharpening rabbit hole.
I corresponded with him many times and appreciated his reluctant patience and wry humor.
I miss him.

Vadim Kraichuk (founder of Knife Grinders) unexpectedly passed away earlier this year.
I do not believe that they are monitoring or responding to any email queries.
The website is still up but not updated.
I doubt you can order anything from them if you are so inclined.

Knife Sharpening / Lost Knife Grinder Angle app
October 28, 2022, 04:58:25 PM
My iPhone was damaged ?so I had to replace it.
Did the cloud thing for backup.
The Angle Setter app from KG did not transfer and is no longer available in the App Store (for Apple products).
Does anyone have any advice or knowledge of a different program?
Thanks

Do you know if this has the same specs as the FVB from Knife Grinders ( compatible with his calculating programs)?
Thanks

Thanks.
I am interested in your system.
I am currently a KG disciple but am always interested in different methods.
Can you aim me at a tutorial of more info? Thanks

Knife Sharpening / Re: CBN for high carbon
May 02, 2022, 03:19:24 PM
Spartans, by definition are made bare bones,
My center hubs did not extend beyond the width of the cutting surface thereby necessitating additional spacers.
They appeared to be corroding and delaminating where the CBN meets the plastic.
I always used them with Honerite.
Having said that, the cutting surface was (and still is) performing as expected.
Might just be an aesthetics thing with me.
Ken at WTW is a standup guy.

Knife Sharpening / T1 BESS
April 01, 2022, 06:13:06 PM
I have been contemplating getting a T1 for traveling for my and my fellow glampers.
Has anyone had any practical experience with this machine and/or a BESS score from the 600 diamond/composite honing combo?
I do not expect to obtain consistent sub 100 blades as can be done with the multi wheel and deburring protocols, but anything less than 200 is probably better than most folks knives were when they were out of the box.
Thanks

Thank you.
I have been using a HoneRite gold solution as well
I have had zero issue with the WTW Tornado wheels.
Cannot say I am a fan of the Spartan wheels though.
