Is Tormek's ACC-150 Anti-Corrosion Concentrate worth the cost when alternates such as Red Line Water Wetter Super Coolant 12oz available in the US at Autozone for $13.99 is a plausible substitute?

ACC is the product recommended by Tormek. Each diamond wheel includes one bottleof ACC. If used carefully, ACC can be reused several times. Do the math to determine your actual cost per "fill up" of the diluted solution. Considering the cost of diamond wheels, I think ACC is cheap insurance, especially for those who use multiple grits of diamond wheels.

To answer your question, yes, I would not use diamond wheels without ACC. Thebest wayto economize is to stay with the SG, possibly adding an SB if you sharpen a lot of HSS or alloy steel tools.

I don't mean to sound harsh. The best way to economize with diamond wheels is to usethem carefully to insure maximum life.

The Red Line Water Wetter Super Coolant seems to provide limited corrosion protection for Aluminum motor heads, as per the technical specifications.
I would suggest contacting the vendor for confirmation that this product prevents corrosion on steel product, especially Tormek diamond wheels.

Thanks for the replies. What is the expected life of a well maintained diamond wheel?  Is the criteria based on number of tools sharpened rather than a period of time?  Likely there are too many variables to nail it down, just interested in a ball park estimate.

Tormek has provided an excellent class on the diamond wheels with Hákan Persson. Håkan is a real deal career expert on abrasives and superabrasives (diamonds and CBN). He discusses why Tormek chose to use machined wheels instead of aluminum and why they chose diamond instead of CBN. He talks about life expectancy with the diamond wheels. One thing which really impresses my about Håkan is his fair and balanced ceverage of both diamond and CBN wheels.

The discussion relating to your questions starts at around 7:30 and goes on for several minutes. The class is not long; I highly recommend you watch the whole thing. Here is a link:

As per the MSDS it is pretty innocuous so I think you should be good. It indicates that it prevents rust in iron and steels and corrosion of Aluminium.
