General Tormek Questions / Re: Repair SJ-200 Stone?
December 05, 2019, 06:45:40 AM
i too sharpen with that stone edge trailing. My guess is that it would work well for your situation. I would still bevel the edge of the chip. If it still interferes as Ken said.  True it away... ugh.

I just spent some time this weekend following the steps in Wootz book on my EDC Leatherman using my stock Tormek, it gets sharp but has never held its edge as I think it should. After following the steps there is no question it is sharper than I've ever had it. Time will tell if I did things right as far as edge retention.
I too appreciate Wootz shared knowledge!

Definitely interested.

Just finished my Kindle edition of the book. A very informative and enjoyable read...  Thanks Wootz

General Tormek Questions / Re: Extended support bar
November 18, 2018, 06:36:37 AM
I too would be interested in finding an extended bar. Let us know if you are able to obtain one and I'll do the same. I'm in the U.S. and will start searching.

I just posted before I saw this thread that Rick's collar is a permanent fixture on my knife jig!

I've had time to use Rick's pivot clamp on several knives and since using it I've no interest in returning to the original set up. I know to lift or to pivot seems to be somewhat controversial but from my experience a little bit of pivoting and lifting is required. I appreciate how well it is made and the results have been excellent.  Thanks Rick for fabricating such a great mod.

Ricks collar is very well built and is a IMHO is a Tormek knife sharpening game changer.

I have one of Rick's pivot pins and along with the information here in this post it has completely changed how much I enjoy my Tormek. Thanks to Rick and all of you for making my Tormek better than it ever was.

How do I obtain one of those? I've been to his site but didn't see anything for sale.

I use both a Tormek and wicked edge they compliment each other really well. Great advise above.

Knife Sharpening / Re: The learning curve...

Even though he is a Edge Pro guy I'm sharing this link because I think some of solutions will work for the Tormek also. IMHO There is some very good information here from someone that has sharpened many knives professionally. I will definitely be including some of these tips in my arsenal of tricks.

Will do Ken... Thanks!

I'm considering making it with brass or aluminum with stainless hardware, just for the potential rust factor. Anyone use those materials?
