Knife Sharpening / C.B.N. coated for T7
June 07, 2015, 01:01:58 AM
Its Bob The Knife Grinder again,
I have seen on google a wheel that will fit the T7 and is advertised as so,  that is a Cubic Boron Nitride ( C.B.N. ) coated wheel.
I have experience of C.B.N.   The coating does not last long, although I use it on a Very fast machine. Does anyone know how long it will last on the T7 with it being a much slower grind.? Remembering that this is an electro plated  COATING of millimetres as opposed to a full wheel of grindstone as in the SG250 wheel.
Ken? anybody?
How long do  you think it will last, has anyone used a C.B.N. wheel on the T7.
Please don't say ( How long is a bit of string )
Because I will tell you the answer to that long asked question.
Which I will on my next forum post.
HaHa.
You are waiting now with baited breath!!!
I really do have the answer to that old adage of the string.

The first one to reply to this post with an informative answer to my C.B.N. T7 wheel, will get the solution to the conundrum of the string length.
Ken, You are good at trigonometry. Maybe you know the answer to the string question??? !!!

Knife Sharpening / ref free hand
June 07, 2015, 12:38:38 AM
Hi, its Bob The Knife Grinder.
I liked the idea of the home made improvised jig from the scissor jig for free hand work.
Would this same free hand be able to work using the SVD - 110 jig that is available, ( Although it is made for a different job )
But if it works?
Ken, what do you think?

Knife Sharpening / Knife Sharpening
June 05, 2015, 08:57:00 PM
Hi all again,
Its Bob The Knife Grinder,
I must be on the 2nd or 3rd month now with my T7. This Machine is saving me a fortune compared to the Catra I100 with C.B.N. plated wheels.
I have only used about 5 degrees worth of grindstone in 2 to 3 months use. I recently sharpened in a carvery restaurant
16 x 12 inch carving knives and 17 utility knives of various sizes in 1 hour 15 mins. That is a cut in time of 25 minutes from the last time I was there.
The more I use it the quicker and more confident I get.
Please believe me when I say, " The Tormek T7 is the best sharpening machine you will get. ".
It is not the fastest, IT IS the most satisfying, IT IS the most cost effective. I am saving a fortune with this machine.
I only wished I had this 10 years ago.
Thanks.

General Tormek Questions / hover mower blades
May 30, 2015, 09:19:58 PM
Hi all,
Its Bob The Knife Grinder from Washington Tyne & Wear in UK.
I am doing better and better week bye week on my new Tormek T7. Its saving me a fortune compared to my other machine, which I use now only occasionally.
I am as you know a knife sharpener, however, today I was going to mow the lawn with my hover mower. Thought I would check the blades. They were full of nicks and very blunt. I got my trusty T7 out, checked the angle on the blade 50 degrees with the anglemaster. 4 minutes later, grinding and leather strop combined. I had a well sharp mower blade. Grass never had as good a cut in a short amount of time.
Happy days.
I need another fix, I have to grind and sharpen something soon.
For all the newbies like me, JUST HAVE A GO, its great.

Hi,
is it possible to sharpen carving knives ( non serrated ) / ham slicing knives. 8 inch  - 10inch  - 12inch blades on the long knife jig
or would it work better on the planer blade jig?
I look forward to the replies.
Cheers.
