Knife Sharpening / Tormek CADs
October 16, 2023, 03:18:51 PM
Hi team!

I've been deep into 3D rabbit hole, now I want to come back to sharpening hobby (with some new tools).
It would be amazingly helpful to have a official CAD from Tormek. It might be a long shot to ask for it, but I was trained to always check "if door is locked, before attempting to break it". So the easy path first - I am looking for the external dimensions. I guess, such information can't be used for anything harmful for the Tormek as a company. Or at least, I can't imagine anything harmful.

Thank you!

Knife Sharpening / CBN wheels
November 06, 2022, 10:23:33 PM
Hi team!

I just got a couple wheels from Woodturners. 600 and 1200 grit. And I have 200 grit in route. Well... It's not exactly what I expected.
Woosh! And 0.5mm of steel disappeared from 600 grit in like 3 passes. I guess, the wheel needs break-in and I need to learn lighter touch.
It's a first time I use diaminds/CBN wheel with Tormek. I remember the break-in from Wicked Edge.

I am bit worried about the 200 grit I ordered. I can't imagine what to feed it for the initial break-in. How long will it be that steel-hungry?

Thank you.

General Tormek Questions / Where to buy diamond spray
November 03, 2022, 06:25:49 PM
Hi team!

I am trying to find a good source for the alcohol-based diamond spray for the felt wheel. mr. Vadim was not specific about the reason why "water based diamond spray should not be used on the felt wheel". I can guess, the water does something to felt... But logically it doesn't compute. The amount of water is miniscule. Yes, it will dry out bit slower than alcohol, but it will dry out and it will be the same result in the end.

Anyway. I see a whole bunch of Jende sprays. For $18.50/7ml and I guess it's water-based. Schleifjunkies have 100ml bottles for ~40EUR and 45EUR shipping. Again, it seems to be in water. Some "Gunny Juice" is for $20/10ml bottles. Water based.

I don't have any other ideas. Googling it more.

General Tormek Questions / Tapatalk for this forum?
November 02, 2022, 10:33:25 PM
A question for admins:

Have you considered adding a support for the Tapatalk? The SMF is supported: https://www.tapatalk.com/download_SimpleMachines
It would be great to have the Tormek forums on the mobile.

Thank you!

Hi team!

I wonder if we have anyone equally good with 3d printing and sharpening. I was thinking about a better version of a jig that Vadim used for the protrusion measurement.

I envision it as a block, with subtracted KJ-45 and a dip for the knife spine on a fixed distance from the KJ jaws. With moving block, for the edge, that goes parallel to spine dip. Ideally with a ruler or a place to attach a ruler or calipers.

I never worked with 3d before, so it will take a bit for me to figure it out. If we have more experienced 3d people here, it might go way faster.

I want to use a wheel hook similar to TS-740 with a Husky/Seville/HomeDepot bench or cabinet. Something like wall plate with baby stud in photo lighting:

Anyone have any ideas what we will be a good candidate for this DIY?

Thank you.

General Tormek Questions / Wootz software for Windows
October 19, 2022, 07:00:45 PM
Hi there! I bought a wrong thing from Vadim's site: http://knifegrinders.com.au/11Shop.htm
It is a bench grinder edition and I was looking for a Tormek one. I can't find the link to buy it anywhere.

Please let me know if you have a link saved somewhere

Thank you.
