I buy 18" lengths of cardboard sheeths from
USA Knifemakers and cut them to order.  They are preprinted
with warnings and available in various widths and pack sizes.

Thanks for the heads up for the link for the pads.
Got 2 sets. Arrived within a week.  Thanx for the offer Rich
but I missed your post.  I use my 45 way more than my long Knife.
Any one wants to try pads for long knife jig, I'll be glad to forward.

Does any one know if his Jig Pads are still available anywhere?

Most professionals use a flat hone which is similar to a record player turntable
and different grits of diamond spray.  Decent flat hones can cost upwards of 3 times what a tormek costs.

General Tormek Questions / Free Stone Offer
March 02, 2020, 09:20:54 PM
I received an Email from an online sharpening supplies company that I use,
offering free stones for life ( up to 3 ) on purchase of new T8 or T4
Very interesting offer.
Best wishes,

General Tormek Questions / Re: USB threads rusting
October 31, 2019, 05:13:10 PM
I bought a 4 oz. bottle of the T-9 and have been using it for
about a week.  It has a 2 hour dry time so I have been applying it at the end of the day.
The label describes it as a solvent and paraffin wax formula that dries to a thin film that lubricates and protects.
It's pretty much colorless and odorless and once it dries you wouldn't know its there.  I think a weekly application
will probably work.

General Tormek Questions / Re: USB threads rusting

Thanks, I'll try the Boeshield.  I currently just brass brush it and use
food safe superlube.  I always use the same city water that I have been on forever.
No I don't drink it. I'm going to get a sample tested.  I also do most of my work in front of the wheel so that part of the USB
stays quite wet.

I use my T8 many hours weekly and it is a workhorse.
Any advice for how to keep the threaded part of the USB
from always rusting would be appreciated.

September 10, 2019, 11:38:17 PM
I know this is a tormek forum but is there a resource
compares available Bess testers.  After three years on my T8
I want to see how I'm doing.

Great stuff and many kudos to the pioneers of the next generation
of possibilities for Tormek machinery.  Most of it seems to be by end users
and not Tormek,  but that may be a good way for innovation.
Ken's interest in 3D printing may also be a great start for prototypes.
Lets all send him our ideas and he can work them up for us.
Thanks in advance for taking on this project Ken.

I got a replacement drive wheel also right after I purchased my T8 because of wobble.
It was one of the first T8's shipped.  After much closer scrutiny I think the problem may be more
how the rubber is attached to the hub rather than a problem with the hub itself.  The wobble did also show in the
leather wheel also.  Still a little baffled by it because the leather wheel attaches to the hub and not the rubber part.
Still a workhorse and dependable machine.

I've also jammed up the scissor jig against the stone by not locking it in properly.

I sharpen lots of kitchen knives.  After 10,000 or so I am convinced that lifting is the best technique.
A couple of tips if I may.  The longer the knife, be careful not to lift too early.  Make sure the tip of the
knife is almost half way through the stone or you will flare the tip.  Some chefs like that but not all.
Practice, practice, practice, and then cut with the knives.  I use over ripe tomatoes to see if i can cut through the skin.
See if you can get 50 slices out of a 1/2 of lime.  If you are using the leather wheel don't rush it and use a liberal amount of paste.  I strop with paper wheel
for speed but the leather is great.  For long slicing knives put the long blade jig toward the end of the blade for added control and stability.
Enjoy and Best Wishes

Reshaping and repair is easily done on a belt sander.  I use 80 grit zirconia on a 1x42
as it doesn't generate much heat, then finish up on the tormek. 10-15 minutes of work.  For someone who has the time
and no other equipment that would work well.  I do appreciate seeing any and all methods of how other people do things.
I always learn something.
Thanks for postiong
