Paper Wheel Honing Setup?

I'm interested in assembling a paper wheel honing setup like the one Wootz used in his videos.  I have a good, 1hp, slow speed grinder I can use.  I like the steel risers Vadim used as well.  How would I construct this setup?

Here is a link to an excellent source for paper wheels:

Ken
I know little of what I need, including which paper wheels. I guess I really do need a tutorial on the setup.

There's a page with some info on KGs website...

http://knifegrinders.com.au/11Shop_PWsupport.htm

... that has info on some of the items needed, and according to this post...

...they may still have some of the "Stands for grinder", if you can't make your own.

Thanks so much.  This will be a big help.  I just sent an email to Daniel for those stands and hope they are the one's I'm thinking they are.

I see there's a range in the height of the Stands, but if I make my own with square stock, what is the recommended total height?  Also, did Vadim use 10" paper wheels in his setup?

I haven't made a setup like KnifeGrinders, so don't have much beyond what's in the links.

Only thing I can suggest is it's recommended to get paper wheels larger than the grinder they're on... so 8" wheels on a 6" grinder, 10" on an 8" grinder, etc.   That way the knife will clear the casing.  I think I read that KG used 10" wheels since they were about the same size as the grinding wheel on the Tormek.

Thanks.  Everything helps.  I'll keep searching KG site for info.

On www.knifegrinders.com.au you find under "Equipment we use" a detailed description "Controlled-Angle Setup for Paper Wheels". And the buffer/grinder should be a half-speed grinder as with the full speed grinder the chance to overheat the blade is high.

What is your intention to use paper wheels on a grinder? A Tormek with adequate wheels gives great results.

I want to use it as part of the protocol that Vadim calls out for in the deburring process.

Main advantage of paper wheels is speed.

Ok...I've ordered the USB mounts.  Now I'm trying to figure out the size of the square tube I need.  Any idea of dimension and wall thickness?  Are the bases for the square tubes sold anywhere or were they fabbed up?

The screws to mount the XB100 are about 58mm apart, on center.

I made this ridiculous-looking setup, which works, although it looks ridiculous.   ;D

It requires reversing the USB when switching wheels, but that's not a big deal.

It works, right?  That's all it needs to do.  Actually, that pic showed me what I need to do to make a base for a square tube.  All I need to do is weld a square plate to the bottom of the tube and there's the base.  Thanks for the pic!

That's what I would have done if I had a welder ... and knew how to weld.
