Faulty Tormek T8

My approx 15 months old T8 has developed a problem,when you press the button to start the machine it starts as normal but as soon as you remove your finger off the button the machine stops.I was wondering was this a common or known problem?.I have emailed Tormek about repair and await their reply.If it's just the switch i could change that myself if they would supply one.

I am having the very same problem. No answer or solution yet.

Can I ask how you resolved it? I need my T8 for my business.

Mine did that after I got water in it. See my other post for photos. I just let it be for awhile and now it seems ok. I do think placing the switch on the top is a strange choice...

I see, but this was after the first hour of using it, the switch just stopped working? Water didn't get into at this stage so I'll will have to double check.
I have left it over night and still no lock on the on button?

Your best bet is to contact Tormek Support directly.  (They don't monitor the forum).

I did Email them yesterday but still waiting for a response. I could fix it myself if I had the parts, there is nothing complicated about the Tormek.

I hope I don't have to send it away! Fingers crossed.

If it's under warranty, I'd (obviously) wait for them to respond.  If not, you can get a switch, for example, thru Advanced Machinery.

(Not sure if this one also fits the T-8, you'd probably have to contact them direct).  I don't know if there's a UK distributor.

I would email Tormek support again (support@tormek.se). I have had excellent service from support. Please keep in mind that Tormek is in the middle of the long Scandinavian summer vacation.
Send support another email.

Thanks everyone. I think I will wait for their reply, it makes sense that they are away on a break.
I'll just be patient for now and see what they say.
It's all just very frustrating.

I wanted to keep a spare switch here myself - just in case of such a situation. But I certainly wasn't going to pay $50 for one!.  :o

According to the imprint, that switch is obviously for 120 volts. A 230 volt version is required for the UK.

Absolutely correct. Mea culpa for being old and stuck in my imperial thinking here in the states.  :-[

My main point being that if you simply search for the same part number printed on your current switch, you can obtain the same part for far less money that what Tormek sells them for. The data sheet beaks down the various options by the part number. https://www.mouser.co.uk/datasheet/2/140/KJD17-2199691.pdf

The other thing is that I would verify the voltage available at your electrical outlet before replacing the switch. These switches contain an under-voltage relay that shuts them off automatically if your mains voltage gets too low. (Loose connections, corrosion etc.) It's one possible reason the switch could be turning off when releasing the ON button.
