We have an old super grind 2000 at a community workshop.

Sometimes you have to push the wheel to get it to start turning.

What would be the cause/how to fix?

Try these tips from the Tormek manual...

QuoteThe Motor is Running But Not the Grinding Wheel
Remove the honing wheel and check that the motor shaft is not slipping on the rubber wheel. If it does, it is caused by water, oil or wood dust on the rubber wheel.
• Clean the motor shaft with a grease solvent, e.g. petrol.
• Freshen the rubber surface by holding an emery cloth or sandpaper towards the wheel while running for some seconds. Start with low pressure so that the wheel does not slip and increase pressure gradually until the rubber surface is gripping. If you stop the grinding wheel from turning the drive shaft should also stop.

Good thought, CB. My first thought was the motor starting capacitor; however, I like your idea of beginning with the most simple thing first.

If that doesn't work, I would email support (support@tormek.se). Starting problems with older motors are not unheard of; support can help.

I would also be on the lookout for a local electric motor repair shop.

Please keep us posted.
