PA-70 Thick Almost Solid - What Can I use to Thin it Out

I have a tube of PA-70 that is 8+ years old that I am trying to use. I can "squish" it in the tube and comes out very thick similar to a very soft eraser. I can not apply it to the leather wheel. I have ordered a new tube which will get here next week.

I am in the Adirondacks in NY on vacation and would like to sharpen some knives for friends before I leave. Is there something that I can mix with the PA-70 until my new tube arrives. I do not have access to any polishing compounds or leather strips.

I would try using mineral oil. Any pharmacy should have it. I have also used it with Tormek's recommendation to break in new leather honing wheels.

Have you tried "kneading" the tube?  I've been able to remix a couple of old tubes that way.

I would try using mineral oil. Any pharmacy should have it. I have also used it with Tormek's recommendation to break in new leather honing wheels.

I found pharmacy mineral oil too thick.  Baby oil (which is mineral oil but thinner), or a machine oil work better IMO.

Good thought, CB. I have only used mineral oil to condition new leather honing wheels.
