Uneven chisel edge #2

Sorry guys for mislabelling the subject of my previous inquiry about vibration. Here's my second question:

I have read the Tormek manual thoroughly and try to follow instructions carefully. However, while sharpening chisels using the square edge jig and trying to ensure equal pressure is applied across the chisel and uniform time is spent moving it across the wheel from side to side, a "step" cuts perhaps 3 mm wide and up to 1.5mm deep into the chisel edge on the right hand side by the time a sharp edge is formed. In reviewing my technique, I have been unsuccessful in determining its cause . Have you any idea as to the cause of the 'step'?

Are you using the the T3 or the T7?  The only thing I can think of that would cause this "step" would be having the chisel too far to the right or left, so that a decent portion of it is not in contact with the grindstone.

If, as you say, you're moving the tool back and forth across the grindstone, then I can't imagine what's causiong it.  Maybe I don't know what you mean by a "step".

Herman, you hit the nail right on the head about movement. I went back and re-read the manual – turns out I was moving the chisel beyond each side of the T7 stone so that only 5/64th of the chisel remained on the stone –duh! Surprising I didn't have a "step" on both right and left hand sides. I sincerely appreciate your patience and response! Sure love the ease and edge using the Tormek.
