Just because something is "designed to be used for" does not mean "can only be used for". Ask any good engineer or designer. I have spent my life using things outside their intended purpose. Saves time money and a lot of effort.

General Tormek Questions / Tip against waterlogging when ...
Last post by WimSpi - March 27, 2024, 08:12:48 PM
Waterlogging is a tricky little problem with the Tormek, though. Many have the Tormek rubber mat under it to catch the water.

I have that too. This rubber mat (RM-533) is on a wooden plate of 18mm plywood.

What I have done is the following:
1) the Tormek stands as far to the left as possible on this rubber mat
2) Under the plywood plate I put a piece of plywood of 3mm thickness on the left lath.

Now when water drips off the Tormek, it all flows to the right side of the rubber plate. I can easily reach that and dip it up with some kitchen paper.
I aim for a water drain on the right side, so that it immediately flows into a bucket.

That the Tormek is skewed 3 mm is not noticeable.

General Tormek Questions / Re: Marking chisels for initia...

You are correct; the manual only shows the TTS-100 for turning gouges. That is unfortunate, as the TTS-100 has several more uses. My suggestion is based on my actual working method for more than ten years. Try it; you will find it works well. No marking is needed beyond the one initial mark, done only once. The patented two metal wheels automatically correct for wheel wear. Used this way, the angles are accurate and consistent.

I don'tknow why Tormek does not show other uses for the TTS-100.

The TTS-100 is shown as for turning gouges?
Manual Shows this?

Thank you.

I will try printing this at our local libraries marketplace where they have an excellent 3D printer for patrons.

General Tormek Questions / Re: Extra Fine Diamond Wheel
Last post by mrgimp84 - March 23, 2024, 11:42:01 AM
Hello,

Sorry I did use the ACC solution with the wheels. All of the wheels have stains and
discolorations that I would like to remove. I tried the rubber stick and that really
didn't do any good.

I agree that Tormek should have a cleaning method for the diamond wheels.

I have emailed support and will let you know  about the reply.

...snip...
Did you have success using the (eight inch diameter) 46 or 80 grit Norton 3X wheels (wet) or the (ten inch diameter) 46 grit wheel (also used wet) with the DBS-22? Granted, they are not as fast as a high speed dry grinder; however they do not produce loose grinding dust to ruin your jig.

Ken

Yes, I did have success with those grinding wheels, and I have you to thank for it.  You may recall, that I later shifted to the same sort of "traditional" grinding wheel, but at 10" diameter. I frequently mention these, both here but more often on the FB group about these wheels as very cheap but very effective options for those seeking faster metal removal for all manner of work on the Tormeks, so much so that some may regard me as a broken record.
