please excuse me if i start smiling at your comments. ;) if you are already so meticulous about the whole thing..... maybe you can also tell me the difference in the degree of pain when i cut myself with an exactly 15° ground knife compared to a cut with a 15.05° ground knife? i'm sure you understand what i'm getting at..... you can also exaggerate everything. simple and comprehensible should be the motto. under this aspect, your explanations go absolutely too far for me.
but you have put a lot of thought into it, respect for that.

I think the problem lies somewhere else... just a thought to think about.... it doesn't matter if the T4 or the T8 goes from a stone or any other wheel with 200 or 250 to a 170 or 220 mm wheel (leather). it just doesn't fit for me. however, i'm neither a mathematician nor an engineer. just a feeling.
for this reason i have now created new leather wheels with a diameter of 250 mm for the T8. Tomorrow i will also get some 200 mm wheels for the T4 for some friends. i hope this will solve the problems.

don't get me wrong arthur, that wasn't a criticism at all. i use the one with magnets and find it easy to use and since it has kept every knife clean so far, i don't see any need for such a design concept "for me". i didn't mean to criticize your wealth of ideas, on the contrary i am always surprised what ideas some people come up with.

u can use 2 leatherwheels with 250mm diameter at the same time with different coating. first with 1 micron diamondspray to deburr and second with 0.25 diamond to polish or chromiumoxide 0.3

#21
So much work instead of using the model with magnets in.

i use 1micron to deburing (monocrystalline diamond) and 0,5 for polish polycristalline
both works perfect.
but now i use same on feltwheel, more effective

Knife Sharpening / refreshing ur grindstones
November 15, 2020, 10:42:26 PM
today I got a special tip from an old knife master who I think fits here quite well. Of course this also applies to less affected stones, or for all those who want to refresh their stone.
The pictures show the stone that was half dipped in citric acid for 48 hours. if i don't believe it, just try it with an old stone. afterwards the stone grinds better. i will definitely try it.

Knife Sharpening / cerated Knife with flinthard Feltwheel
November 13, 2020, 11:25:44 PM
i had a visit from a grinding buddy today. he brought 2 KAI bread knives.This was the opportunity to try out my flinthard felt wheel for wavy knives. i didn't have time to oil the new wheel first so it is still a little dusty. just put some diamond paste 0,5 micron on it and off it went. the result was just perfect.

@Ken
i have made a sample for a 3cm longer JIG

#28
@Ken

i don't think you need a longer jig Ken but i will of course have one made for you that is 3 cm longer. we can do that without a grub screw with an o-ring. the picture shows 2 completely different knives, both adjusted to 140mm length. This works with the clamp. But as i said i can let you and others make a longer one.

@cbwx34

i understand your skepticism, but it is unfounded. due to a special milling in the clamp, 3mm knives hold just as well as 8mm knives.
but you are right..... it took me 4 months and many failed attempts to solve the problem you described. time and reviews will show if i was right or if your skepticism is justified :)

Knife Sharpening / Re: new`s from the part front

Hanns,
When you are designing your jig, please make the threads on the shaft longer than those on the present SVM-45. This would allow thinner knives like pocket knives and paring knives to be set directly to 139mm Projection, the standard Projection used by many of us. This would reduce set up time for anyone sharpening a mixture of knife sizes.

Pre 2002 Tormek knife jigs had these longer threads. Tormek redesigned the jigs because some careless users were leaning on the longer shafts. Why should present day users continue to be punished with less efficient jigs because some users twenty years ago were careless?

Here is a photo showing the difference:

Hi Ken,
my first batch is only 1 cm longer but it is no problem to make the shaft 2-3 cm longer if needed. maybe as an idea i make some with longer shaft when i produce next batch.
