General Tormek Questions / Re: Multi Base-100
August 09, 2018, 12:46:18 AM
I heard from Advance Machinery today. the lady quoted the new updated WM-200 will be available in October.
Yes CB, I read that the add 18 degrees to the wm 200 will give you the right angle ! not a problem, just will be easier when we can get the updated version.

cb, in my opinion, the knife on the right (the after shot) is wider than the (before) shot.
it may be possible that the after shot was actually the before shot, then the knife was mistreated on a nail and left in the rain about a month.

Jan and Ken, you are both correct, even tho the electromagnetic switches are not new technology, they are being used more and more in electrical motor environments as a safety feature.

Jan, you are correct. the T-8 also has a magnetic switch, meaning if power is lost it will not automatically come back on when power is restored. must press the start switch again.

you will love it, simply because "it works".

I truly believe in the Tormek grader and still use the grader on all but the SJ-250

For the SJ stone, I too use the Wootz method of the 1000 grit diamond plate to not only clean the SJ, but to grade it as well. I primarily started using it just to clean the wheel, but soon discovered an exciting anomaly that it IMO re-grades the SJ to a higher grit level. of course I cannot prove this actually happens, but the wheel seems twice as slick after the diamond plate has been on the wheel only a minute or two.

to answer Wolfy questions: I wonder how many use the stone grader and how often?

What is others experience?

I started using the stone grader when I bought the T-8 about 5 months ago. I learned by watching Stig and Jeff Farris. they both do a great job teaching. that leaves "experience". I started using and refining their techniques and now use it every time I need to cleanup or re-grade the SG-250. The Tormek grader has served me well and still looks almost new due to following Stig and Jeff techniques and advice.

As far as my SJ-250, I usually clean after use with the rust erasers, which do a fine job. I didn't think the SJ-250 actually needed grading, but after watching Wootz video's, I decided to use the diamond plate approach. With the help of Ken and a little luck, I put together a great way to grade the SJ-250 with the diamond plate.

IMO, it is very important to use the stone grader's of either or both methods to improve your stones and your level of sharpness !

I've used them for a couple years now. I really like them. does work wonders for cleaning the stones.

I agree with jeff, if only 5 of 17 are working satisfactorily then no big problem.

I chose the T-8. its a little larger and has an unlimited run time without a cooling down period. better motor in my opinion.
