Thanks all for your reply  :)

I thought I might build a Wootz setting knife block instead of this chema but I realy dont figure were the knife tip should be in his jig

Ken could you please develop the relationship of the three parts of the triangle?

Jan,

Moses gave me a stone tablet marked "132 mm".......

Just kidding, of course. 139mm just happened to fall in the middle common range for me with 15° bevels. Wootz seems to gravitate toward 140mm. I attribute that to his being in the Southern Hemisphere.  :)

Edwe,

Once you understand the relationship of the three parts of the triangle, you can choose from whatever works.

Just did a quick test, both with a new sharpened and just honed a bit dull knife.
Made a big difference for me  ;D

I purchased a VFB from Wootz (KnifeGrinders in Australia). I have not had a chance to use it yet, however, it looks well designed and manufactured. I regard Wootz highly. The other versions also seem impressive to me.

For the mere mortals among us, which includes me, I think controlled honing will consistently produce sharper results than freehand. A VFB seems a logical aid. I plan to incorporate mine into my standard knife sharpening technique.

Ken

+1 on that Ken
Lets see tomorrow what I can achieve

Another question
How do you mount the BGM-100?
With nuts on the backside or do you make treads in the box?
#28
Now I have to order the tube.
I could choose between these 2

50x30x3mm

or this

50x25x2mm (there is also 50x30x2mm)

Witch one is strong enough?

As CB says, the Front Vertical Base is easy to make.  As a small tweak (but one I liked), I used 12x200mm stainless steel bolts (with the heads cut off) instead of 12mm threaded rod.  That way, you have a short length of thread where you bolt the rods to the rectangular box, but smooth rods to slide through the collar mounts on the machine.  (I don't see the need for a fine adjustment on these rods, so I don't miss having threaded rod.)

Gord

Thanks for the tip Gord
But will 200mm be long enough?

Well read trough the trad again and I answer my self as the longest bults in the tread were 8" (203mm) :)
