Wood Carving / Flexcut and the SVS-32
October 22, 2012, 05:03:53 AM
I tried to sharpen a Flexcut regular sweep gouge with the SVS-32 jig.  Because the gouge has a flat shank, it did not roll evenly and did not follow the sweep of the bevel.  How do I sharpen the Flexcut gouges???

My method for flattening the backs is to use the universal support as a guide like Jeff mentioned.  Then I do the hovering thing to get close.  Then I deliberately make the first contact with the wheel using the heel of the iron, then rotate the rest of the blade flat against the wheel.

Hand Tool Woodworking / Square Edge jig

I've had issues getting square grinds on my chisels using the SVH-60 jig, even when following the tech bulletin on properly tightening the jig.  Is there any advantage to using the SE-76 Square Edge Jig?

Planer Blade Sharpening / Indexed planer knives
May 22, 2010, 12:09:29 AM
I have a Dewalt 735 planer and it has indexing knives.  Can they be sharpened on the Tormek?  My concern being that you can't adjust the knife position in the cutterhead.

If it is possible to sharpen them on the Tormek, does anyone have experience putting a steeper angle on the knife?  I'm considering running some birdseye maple and trying to stave off tearout.
