Working on backlog of chisels and came upon a strange one. Where do you think American chisels are made? If you guessed the same place where your machine is made you were right.

Great stuff! I saw a line, but stupidly thought it was just the honing process.  I realize now it is layered steel.  I normally don't do double bevels on chisels, I think it is proper in this case.  I am not a wood worker, just a sharpener, so this will probably go to a friend. Thank you, Dan.

 Sharpening a chisel is harder than I thought when you do it right. One was a Japanese piece.  I was able, (barely), to flatten the back on a stone, but the way Japanese chisels are made with the hollow back this may be the last sharpening.  My question is, when you hit the hollow part is the chisel ready for the garbage can?

WOW! Good post....  I think the KS123 has overtaken the WM-200 for knives. I wish I could find the drill bit jig cheaper, it is allot to commit to.

Other than changing the bevel thickness I don't perceive any problem angling the knife.  One of those do what you gotta do.

Just a nugget My first knife was a Randall Made 19-5 and I totally messed up the grind line. See YOU'RE not the biggest idiot; I'm at the head of that queue for a while.  I too am afraid to work on fixing it. But some day........  So all your responses help.

Ditto on changing the shaft with a stainless one.  I have the same S/G 200O unit, and it works great.  That honing wheel looks to be unused and yes it will need oil.  It appears not used much so the wheel SHOULD come off. YMMV Once the wheels are off a good wipe down/cleaning is in order.

I'd worry about changing the width SG-250 wheel. If you are using the flat side enuff to dish it, I would invest in a diamond wheel.

There is no belt, it is a shaft & friction wheel. My SuperGrind 2000 was doing the same thing. I cleaned both with alcohol problem went away. Take off the honing wheel for easy access.

Y'all got some lofty goals!  You SETTLE for 70-100 on the Bess? I would love to settle for that. ymmv Can't be of help, btaim Maybe your goals are not reasonable, but that is not for me to set.  Good luck on your endeavors.

I know this may be simplistic, but have you pulled the shaft and cleaned and greased it?  Also check the drive shaft and friction wheel at the same time.  Sounds like it may be more.  Like motor related. I would do the easy stuff first.  If the SG 250 wheel is not stuck the shaft is a 10-minute job.

Good luck on moving!  Sometimes the hard part of knife sharpening now is just getting to the garage.  So far, I've been able to use my SG 2000 you know the saying, adapt or ..........
