General Tormek Questions / Re: PM-V11 steel grinding

I sharpen numerous S390 steel turning tools daily with the df250 and it does an excellent job and has for several years. The pm-v11 would not be a problem at all.
Diamond is superior to all the other wheels offered and it is the best investment you can make for your Tormek.

I've owned my 2000 sine the first batch came to the US in 1993. I've tried most of the wheels available and the diamond is the clear winner. Cbn was first used specifically for dry grinders since it can handle the heat. The only time cbn has an advantage is above 650C otherwise its inferior to diamond.

General Tormek Questions / Re: Dating Tormeks

Steve,
I contacted Tormek about this a few years ago when I rebuilt my 2000. The first batch was sent to the US in mid 1993. I bought mine at a woodworking show shortly after their arrival. If you are in the market for a new stone I'd highly recommend spending the money on a diamond stone. I bought the coarse and the fine but mostly just use the coarse for changing profiles. The fine is perfect for all my turning tools. Well worth the investment.
