Quote from: austijp on May 04, 2023, 04:40:09 AMI'm  brand new to both the Tormek and this Forum but I quickly decided I wanted/needed a FVB.  Fortunately my background is Machining/tool and die maker.  I machined a FVB and for a novice it was transformational.  I use the Calcapp calculator for both the stone and honing wheel, all these tools have made it much easier for me to attain a quality edge.  I'm 100% in favor of the tool, some might call it a crutch but anything that helps me build consistency into the process is a great tool.

Do you have a photo of it and do you make them for other folk?

Hi Ken,

Thank you.  I seem to remember it was just a link and a few people commented it was good.... with superb engineering.

I have finally got my nice ball bearing runners and ready to copy the design but I guess I will have to re-invent it.

All the best,
Hedgestar

On some post on here a while back, a chap (possibly East European) did a video of a very clever draw-runner glide system sharpener using Tormek holders but on flat stones?

The music stood out as it was by Touch and go like in case anyone remembers it.... touch and go

I am trying to find it and failed .... any link to it would be much appreciated.

I have a super-grind 2000 and see no reason whatsoever to change it.  Good luck with it, it's a wonderful machine.

Doing some searches, a few people have made a FVB and some have bought some from KG.

I see the inspirational and unfortunately late Wootz even made one in wood.

I keen to make one for myself, unless there are some readily available in the UK.

Which design is worth copying/following?  It seems a block of alloy the same overall size as the XB100 base is a good start and 25mm thick and horizontal bars centres fixed at 15mm down from the top of the XM100.  Is this the best one to copy and it is the same one that KG used to sell?  I see one helpful member on here cbwx34 has some software linked in his signature.  Is one of those pieces of software better to use and linked with a particular FVB design?

Thank you cbwx34.

I will search.

My pink wheel was good on HSS turning tools.  A bit too coarse on knives.

These days I need to cover far more general sharpening for my home workshop.

I am just really trying to find the information as a reference as I need to "invest" in some new wheels and try to figure out a low cost set up without buying a spectrum of diamond wheels.

Thank you Ken,

I had seen the Peter Child web pages but the "Tormek" wheel is missing.  I guess your point maybe about the pink wheels shown for small high speed grinders is probably the same material.  My guess is,  you may well be right as the colour is exactly the same and from the same supplier.

From what I can see from KG Australia, the SB250 is likely to be similar.  I see the SB 250 wheels can be fine dressed but not coarse dressed with the Tormek stone.  Diamond dressing fine.  Out of interest, I may try this on my Pink wheel before I replace it.

Hi all,

My first post !

I have had my Tormek S2000 for a long time.  I bought a Peter Child Pink stone some time ago and have really liked it.  I assume as Peter Child no longer trades those wheels are unobtainable now?

Does anyone know the Grit/material specification of those wheels please?
