I agree, edge retention is very important.

It's not often you see BESS results from 24 hours after initial sharpening. Rarely will your sub-100 BESS knife remain that way the next day, even without use.

IMO the BESS tester is incredibly useful for judging your own results and not necessarily anyone else's.

North American suppliers of CBN wheels would be woodturnerswonders.com. Amazon has them from a Chinese supplier but price and shipping may not be optimal.

Best bang for your buck alcohol diamond spray suppliers I have found is schleifjunkies.com. Shipping is costly to NA, so it's best to bundle with other supplies you might need such as the CBN wheels.

I'm a directly to the wheel guy, but this is good info. Thanks for sharing.

General Tormek Questions / Re: Wet shirt!

Used to happen to me all the time, now only occasionally. Lately, I've been dry grinding the lowest grit before switching to wet grinding for the finer grits so that might have something to do with it, not sure.

General Tormek Questions / Re: Tormek drive wheel

My drive wheel will wobble a bit if everything is not lined up perfectly when I put it back on. I would take it off and put it back on a time or two, and make sure everything is flat and tight. If your grinding wheel doesn't wobble I would say the shaft is most likely not the problem.

Nice. I don't dual wheel sharpen very often, but when I do, drive wheel slippage is definitely an issue.

Knife Sharpening / Re: Honing knives on T8 Black

You could use the angle master to find the approximate spot where 15 degrees is on your honing wheel. I am hesitant to recommend spending more money on an already expensive sharpening system, but a FVB is an extremely useful tool in taking your honing to the next level.

I would also like to add that it is easy to get discouraged with results in early attempts with the Tormek, I know I did. There is little substitute for patience and practice. With time and effort, you will see things get exponentially better.

Quote from: 3D Anvil on February 15, 2023, 05:21:07 AMI use one of those belt cleaning sticks for my CBN wheels and it works very well.  It's basically just a big gum rubber eraser.

How often would you say you have to clean your CBN/Diamond wheels? I've noticed mine have accumulated some buildup that I can rub off.
I do it routinely after every couple of sharpenings because it only takes 10-20 seconds, but I think it would be fine to do it after five or 10.

Sounds good, thank you.

Glad they picked this subject, should be interesting and informative. Honing pressure in particular is something that I am interested in hearing their perspective on.

Quote from: 3D Anvil on December 12, 2022, 06:22:01 PMGlad it worked out for you.  Can you say where you got your tapered wheel?  I've done a little looking but haven't found any in stock.

I got mine from Schleif. I'm glad to hear there is a fix for bringing the taper back after the wheel ages.
