thanks Mike and Rich, sound advice. Very much appreciated.
He tells me wants the microbevel for the harder timbers. Can he do this with the leather wheel and honing compound after he polishes the 25 degree primary bevel?

Hello, my son has a Tormek Supergrind 2000 with the SG-250 wheel, and he wants to put a 30 degree microbevel on the 25 degree bevel chisels he sharpens, using Wet and Dry paper glued to 6mm thick glass.

What grit of papers would you recommend?

kind regards,
Joe

Thanks Mike and Ken, you have given me great confidence to continue with the coplanar bevel method on waterstones after grinding on the Tormek.
What a great Forum this is !

Hello, I  sharpen my bench chisels with Tormek Supergrind 2000 with the SG-250 wheel which is now down to 240 mm diameter.

My question is what is the point of the leather wheel, other than to give a nice polish, It does not hone i.e, remove very fine metal, or give a microbevel. Or is this incorrect?

How does it compare with my method of  grinding with the SG-250, then going straight to the 1,200 and 8,000 waterstones? I  hold the chisel on the heel and the bevel edge, and draw the chisel backwards freehand about 5 times to give a microbevel as shown in the attached picture. I  can do this to hone the chisel during a job 5 or 6 times before needing a new grind

Hoping to get some knowledgeable and wise comments

Many thanks to all for this incredible discussion. Well done!
I  have found the Tormek online chisel sharpening class referred to above, and noticed that the AngleMaster has a flat base that sits on the chisel back when setting the angle. On my old Supergrind 2000 the bottom of the piece that sits on the back of the chisel is curved, and I  am never sure of the exact position where it should sit on the chisel.
Should I  get a new AngleMaster to start with?

Hello, is there any way I can set a very accurate angle on my Tormek Supergrind 2000? I prefer to do the hollow grind on this water wheel, and then use the Veritas Mk2 honing jig on my 5000 Japanese water stone for the final hone, but the angles never line up. I know the Veritas jig is quite accurate, having tested the resulting angle, and it is repeatable.
Hoping someone can help
