My T-8 has a Wave Spring Washer on the drive wheel side of the main shaft. It seats inside the outside of the nylon bearing (#16 in the T-8 spare parts list attached)

The replacement main shaft kit MSK250, for both the T-8 and T-7, does not include this Wave Spring Washer (#31 in the T-8 spare parts list).

Is there a reason that a Wave Spring Washer is not included in the MSK250 main shaft kit?

I don't remember even having a 'Spring Washer' when I swapped mine out.  I'd contact Tormek support for the best answer (and post what they say).

A couple of videos don't show it either....

Those are not T-8's.  So I guess the replacement kit doesn't include the wave spring washer.

My T-8 has always had the Wave Spring Washer.

But the replacement/upgrade shaft kit, that I got for my T-7, did not include a Wave Spring Washer.  Either did my new cast aluminum drive wheel.

I contacted Tormek and they are sending me one

The left hand thread EZYlock shaft was introduced in January 2010. Prior to that, the T7 had a right hand thread shaft. With the original right hand thread shafts, final tightening was done with a 19mm or 3/4" wrench and a light tap of a hammer. Until recently, this was illustrated in the handbook. The present online handbook edition no longer shows this. Hopefully you still have your original handbook. If not, support (support@tormek.se) can email you scans of those pages.

Ken

Thanks Ken,  I will email them.

You probably know, what is the best lube for the shaft where it goes through the plastic bearings?

Are there replacement shafts, and where best to buy ?

I have a T-7 and it has a right hand "nut' on the wheel and I'm having issue with it coming loose often.  the newer T-8 I see has a left hand threaded disc.

I think they changed the design for a reason, yes?

Thanks will reach out to them.

A friend who lives in another State bought a T-8 back in January of this year.  But he has decided he does not want it and I am making him an offer on it.
He said he never registered it.  Would I be able to get the warranty on it into my name?

What about getting to 12 degrees with narrow knifes using the jig(modified) for edge trailing.  Does the knife holder not rub?
#8
Can you get near 12 degree angle using a modified Tormek knife jig for Edge Trailing sharpening with both the large and small knife holder, including for narrow blades?  How much do the knife holder(s) limit your angle for various blade widths?  What might be the lowest angle with a narrow blade for Edge Trailing using the jig, modified of course?

To all...I sharpen edge leading, but also have the FVB and software. In general what are the pros and cons of each. I know there are lots of different opinions on this. I sharpen as a relaxing hobby for myself and friends and relatives. It's not unusual for me to piddle around on one knife for 30 minutes or more. It keeps me from having to trim the hedge or pull weeds. Btw I have the new CBN wheels and the Japanese 4000 along with half speed grinder and paper wheels and rock hard felt.

Unless you sharpen freehand, like this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkfakpVOgoc,  or have a special jig that you make yourself, or buy from someone like Knife Grinders, it seems you can only edge-trail sharpen very narrow blades using the upright support.

Here is a quick fix I just found that will work for what look like maybe 2.5" wide, but probably not cleavers and such: https://youtu.be/NxhshLja_Fg

General Tormek Questions / Re: Tormek 2006
August 29, 2020, 03:28:11 AM
Thanks Ken,
I just texted him with your suggested offer of $250 and was turned down. I figured the nearly new 10" and the two knife jigs, and the grading stone,  I think there might be one or two other jibs, I think he bought a additional kit that included the knife jigs, seems that  made it easily worth $250.  I might text him back with $300 since I can pick it up without shipping, but that would be it.  But without the warranty I think in the long haul that a new one would be the better choice.  So I'm going to save up a bit.

General Tormek Questions / Tormek 2006
August 28, 2020, 05:27:58 PM
Hello,
I have an opportunity to buy a Tormek 2006 that has, what I am told, practically no use.  The owner said he bought it then used it only one time to sharpen his chisel set.  It looks like it.
He boxed it back up in the original box and everything looks like new.  Original wheel measures 10".
What would be a good price an older practically unused 2006?  He says he would like $450. I've yet to throw out an offer to him, so maybe I could get it for less .  Would it be worth it to spend $300 more and get a new t-8?
Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Tormek does not... but there are a couple of aftermarket places that sell a "Front Vertical Base"...

https://schleifjunkies.de/en/produkt/vertical-front-base/

http://knifegrinders.com.au/11Shop.htm

... or make your own...

https://forum.tormek.com/index.php?topic=2635.0

Thanks for the links.  Especially the make your own one.  I will read up more on edge-trailing sharpening of knives more in that thread.

Why does Tormek not just make such a support?
#13
I know that there are probably some that Edge-Trail sharpen knives freehand.  And there are probably those that make a stand for the jig support so that they can use the knife jig on the support for Edge-Trailing sharpening.

Why is it that Tormek does not make a support bracket so that you can mount the jig support as to do Edge-Trailing sharpening?
