Does the SVD-50 also do my skew and parting tools?

Wood Turning / SVD-185
January 24, 2007, 07:12:33 PM
I am new to turning, so I picked up the SVD-185. Can I use this to sharpen my regular gouge, or should I pick up an SVS-50 for that purpose?

Thanks, Tim

From what I understand.. If you bring the tool support down to the stone and there is even space side to side, the stone is flat. From what you describe, your stone is essentially egg shaped or out of round.  Jeff has said in the past that this can be caused by altering the pressure that you push down with as you grind. The truing tool will take care of both of these.

I found the same thing. I had to true the stone only after a few tools. This was very concerning to me as well.

General Tormek Questions / truing
April 12, 2004, 07:04:56 PM
I had to use my diamond truing tool for the first time today..very nervously I admit, and when I was done my stone looked like an old LP record. It was true again, but had divots. I looked at the tip of the tool and it had a ridge in it. I turned it in the tool and took a little more off and it did get better. Has this happened to anyone, and what am I supposed to do?

General Tormek Questions / true stone?
February 03, 2004, 12:16:56 PM
Using my universal support, my stone appears to be 100% true, yet sharpening my chisels they do not have a 90 degree angle to the side of the tool. 1-2 millimeters for a 1 inch chisel. Sharp as all get up, but just slightly angled. Should I be worried? Do I need to us the diamond trueing tool on my brand new stone?

Thanks

General Tormek Questions / honing oil

Any recommendations as to what oil to use on the leather honing wheel at startup. I don't really know much about machine oils. ???
