Ken, I do not own a Tormek at this time. I'm in the process of doing my homework to see it it is a machine I would be happy owning. I would question your comment in regards to the brisk resale of used machines. Why are folks so quick to give up their machines if they're that good at what they do?

HM, good honest posts, thank you! I like your comment, "Not as easy as it looks in these youtube videos, I gotta say :)." This confirms all the suspicions I've had as to why so many folks felt it necessary to cobble together some kind of secondary jig to be used with those supplied by the manufacturer, in order to obtain accuracy and consistency in sharpening. I'd like to get back with you in 6 months to see if you still have that initial excitement with your machine, if you still feel it was a good purchase, and if that steep learning curve has flattened out some for you.

General Tormek Questions / Re: Cabinet

Thanks Rick. It sounds as though from your farmers market experience, that I should put you down for using a folding table? Any other suggested sources of mounting your machine?

General Tormek Questions / Cabinet
November 16, 2018, 06:58:59 PM
Looking at the cabinet to set the sharpener on under Tormek accessories, I have to question the price. Is the price of $800+ correct? Has anyone found a better deal on a cabinet through some other tool outlet like Harbor Freight etc. ?

Ken, can you recommend a suggested source of supply? PM me if necessary.

Thank you Ken. I do have a new full can of 3 in 1 oil I was intending on using on whatever leather wheel I end up with. But in my reading on this forum, it seems 3 in 1 has a detrimental effect on the compound applied due to dryers within the oil?? So I certainly wouldn't want to saturate a wheel with the wrong stuff right at the get-go!

If you could clear-up some confusion on my part please regarding the specific oil of choice for leather wheels. Is it 3 in 1 oil or Mineral Oil?

Ken, I just finished reading your post on "Final report, CBN grinding wheels". WOW, what a read! I therefore have to now consider you as being in the realm of "wheel guru". So as a person who has not yet pulled the trigger on the purchase of a Tormek machine, and only being a simple knife sharpener.  I'm asking for your advice on which wheel one should have for general kitchen / restaurant knife sharpening?  In other words, as one gentleman so nicely put it, for how long and how wide do I have to leave my wallet open after the initial machine purchase!!! What wheel comes with the machine from the factory, and what after market options do I have for a wet wheel choice? Thank you for all replies.

I'm toying with making a purchase of a T7/T8 machine for knife sharpening. But from what I'm seeing and hearing, it's not all that easy on this machine which is why folks are coming up with their own jigs in order to facilitate consistency and/or repeat ability. Here is one such method which doesn't break the bank and seems pretty simple to produce. I was wondering if any of you Tormek owners have used this method and how it worked for you?   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcWAkQmoU8c

I was wondering if this can be seen on YouTube in action? Just trying to get some clarification on what it is this is going to do for me.
