General Tormek Questions / SJ-250
August 04, 2013, 12:45:40 AM
I have a Tormek 2000 which I haven't used for several years.  I would like to start using it to sharpen my hand planes (old and new) and am considering using the SJ-250.  I have both an 8000 and 16000 Shapton stone, for continuing sharpening past 4000.  How difficult is it to switch stones on the 2000?  I would like to continue to use the original stone also.   Thx.

Wood Turning / Tormek Jig for fast grinding
June 20, 2006, 06:49:00 PM
Has anyone tried the following setup found under:

http://www.woodcentral.com/newforum/turning.shtml

titled "Grinding Radius Screws"

Seems like it might be a good setup to compliment the Tormek when you need to grind quickly.

Also, Jeff do you sell the two parts required?   XB-100 Horizontal Base for Universal Tool Support (19.95) Micro Adjust Universal Tool Support (31.95)

Thx

General Tormek Questions / Re:SP 650 Frequency
May 30, 2006, 09:44:50 PM
Jeff,

Thanks for the reply.   Maybe I should have known the answer (meaning it was in the manual or on a video instruction), but re activating the stone was not clear to me for more aggressive removal of material.    I had struggled with the time the Tormek took on some of my 1st attempts at sharpening.   I now know as I re profile a tool that using the SP 650 is key to the speed of the sharpening!

General Tormek Questions / SP 650 Frequency
May 30, 2006, 05:10:26 PM
How often does the wheel require "dressing" from the SP 650?   I realize if I want to utilize a 1000 grit wheel, I need to dress the wheel with the smooth side of the SP 650.   However, under normal usage (220 grit), does the wheel require dressing with the rough side of the 650?

This weekend I sharpened several of my woodturning tools on the Tormek for the 1st time.   Due to the size of the wheel (new system), my bevel on the tools was different than a 6" wheel (as would be expected).   The Tormek seemed to remove more material on the tools if I kept dressing the wheel with the SP650 (220 grit).    However, I am not sure if this was my imagination or not.  Thanks for the help.

General Tormek Questions / Re:Belt Dressing
May 25, 2006, 07:00:58 PM
Jeff,

Thank you for the explanation.   I probably put too much of the belt dressing on the tire as I was attempting to follow the same process as the DVD.

Thanks again,

Rick

General Tormek Questions / Belt Dressing
May 25, 2006, 12:57:11 PM
After watching the DVD and learning how to set my Tormek "up", I dressed the tire with belt dressing as Jeff suggested.

I had my machine for about a month prior to performing the above and never had any issues with it.   But after watching the dvd thought it would be a good idea to maintain the machine.

However, now my Tormek "slips" much worse than before.   I can easily stop the machine by applying pressure to the wheel.    I took the honing wheel off again and attempted to clean any excess belt dressing, but I still have the problem after re assembly.

The only issue, I could possibly think of is that in the dvd the belt dressing looks like a milky consistancy.   The belt dressing I rec'd with the kit was more yellow in color and translucent.

Any ideas?

Does anyone have any advice on how to sharpen the Alan Lacer 1 3/8 "curved" skew chisel?

Thanks in advance!
