Hi Kala......  before you buy that jig for bench grinder - TRY TO MAKE ONE ! All you need is a right size channel iron - big enough to bolt the horizontal post holder on it- drill on it corresponding holes and by using off-cut wood and Bob's your uncle ! Look at that jig and you'll realize how simple it is - I'm about to start making one for myself !

We all reduced the kWh usage - one example " 13 years ago we used a lamp over our dining table with 120 Watt bulbs, today we have 10 Watt LED providing the same brightness on the table top."
THE USAGE GOES DOWN - BUT THE BILL IS GOING UP AND UP !

"In my opinion, regreasing the shaft every three months is fine, but overkill. Remembered and actually done annually seems adequate, especially with stainless steel shafts (all shafts since 2006)." Yes it is if you are 20 years old ! - But I'm 70 and still working as a locksmith (HAVE TO - or die from boredom !) and also remember - DON'T GIVE THE RUST AN EVEN CHANCE!

After spending a few hours just trying to take off a baked-caked on wheel I'll be lubricating the shafts at least once every 3 months. And it will be much easier as my old Super-grind is getting a new SS shaft - the T8 has it and the little blue Tormek had it cleaned and lubed just now - lucky bugger as no rust yet - just pitting here and there.
BTW those SS shafts are from Germany or France - they cost about 3 4 Euro's each  . . Here in Sydney they are like $120 PLUS !

120 Euros was about 170 Au $ - and if I put one shaft on ebay for $100 . . . .

General Tormek Questions / Re: Worn drive shaft
March 24, 2017, 06:51:12 AM
Victory to persevering people !
The shaft is out with a stone BONDED to it - actually the rear washer bonded-rusted to that Lead (Pb) that fills the center of the stone  and even the plastic bushing was rusted on the shaft - once out I placed the shaft trough the hole on the anvil and gently hammered the shaft out - it resisted up to the last mm !
The stone is unbroken and smiling and waiting for the new SS Shaft !
Thanks for the tips !
Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill ! ( And seized shafts !)

General Tormek Questions / Soluble oil
March 24, 2017, 05:28:55 AM
Hi  -  has anybody tried to use SOLUBLE OIL mixed with water ??? I use it on the lathe and on a boring machine as a coolant and rust stopper.
Just not sure how will that mixture affect the Tormek grinding stone ?

General Tormek Questions / Re: T8 Update
March 23, 2017, 10:28:23 PM
Same here - atrocious with wood - but good with metal !
Had a old US-105 Universal Support (older parts were NOT tredded ) went really crazy trying to find a way to cut treads  on that post  !
1/2 x 16 BSF die did the trick !
So now anybody that has a old Universal Support can "update" it this way.
The US-105-N Adjusting nut for universal support will happily go on !
Good Luck !

General Tormek Questions / Re: Worn drive shaft
March 21, 2017, 12:37:02 PM
Hi - Brand new member here - out of desperation - just got a new T8 - no problems there BUT my old Green Supergrind needs a new shaft and guess what ? The big stone is baked - welded - rusted together with the shaft ! I took the holding nut off and the big washer - used gentle tapping on the stone - try hitting the shaft with a small 2pound hammer - soaked the threaded part with penetrating oil (have no KROIL here in Sydney) even drilled a full length hole (50mm) just on the tread line and injected with penetrating oil - THE BUGGER IS STILL STUCK !
Is it possible to pull that shaft out - with a wheel still attached ???
Or does anybody knows some dirty tricks about it ???
Any help is appreciated -
