Ken, you are correct. As we are launching the Tormek T-4 Bushcraft package (without the Mora knife), we need marketing and instructional material for our intended audience, so they easily can see the benefits of using the Tormek system. However, this does not mean that we won't produce more in depth material further on. Video is a very great way of learning, and we hope you will find future videos more relevant for your skill improvement. Your parallel to Apple is a good point, I will keep that in mind. Thank you.

Interesting thought, CB. I suspect the new version will be the only version, covering diamond and Original wheels. Related to that, I would not be surprised if production has already ceased with the older version.

Ken, you are correct. There will only be one version of the WM-200. However, the previous version of the AngleMaster is also compatible with MB-100, just like cbwx34 informed in his post. The instruction is also included with the MB-100, so the user will always be able to get started, regardless of which version they have of the AngleMaster. Small updates are sometimes necessary for some products, but that does not automatically mean that the previous version is no longer useful. So for all of you who have the previous version of WM-200 and want to use it together with MB-100 - go for it

I believe it is a very high grade of mineral oil, possibly food grade, although that level of purity is not necessary. My guess is that it was chosen as much for the size odf the container to prevent overoiling.

I have prepared six leather honing wheels over the years with a variety of products, including 3 in 1 oil, mineral oil, the Tormek oil, and no oil. All worked, although the no oil wheel, done at the suggestion of a Tormek demonstrator, left black dust. A later application of mineral oil solved that problem. With a new Tormek, I would use the included tube. Lacking that, mineral oil works fine.

Just want to confirm that Ken is correct in saying that mineral oil works perfectly fine (for example light sewing machine oil).
We started including a small tube of oil with our machines around a year ago to make the setup even easier for the user, but as mentioned, any other light mineral oil works as well.

I am so happy to hear that you enjoy the film. My father is a carpenter and I can really relate to Kerryn when she's talking about how she spent hours with her dad in his workshop. My father was the person who introduced me to many of the tools that I use today, and I have always been allowed to help him, which probably shaped my interest for making and DYI projects. I hope I will be able to pass this on to my future kids one day.

I am pleased to see you posting. This must be an exciting time for the Tormek Marketing Department. Even if the new diamond wheels had only the traditional edge cutting capability, they would be a major innovation. The ability of doing controlled flat grinding on the side will open up whole new potential sharpening options for Tormek users. I look forward to studying both much forum conversaton and instructional support from Tormek.

In my opinion, the Anglemaster designation is a very minor issue. What I do find important is that Tormek has provided the users with the modified scale to accurately use the Anglemaster with side grinding. The addition of the modified side grinding scale will do much to aid user proficiency and satisfaction with the Multi Base and diamond wheels.

The original Anglemaster, the WM-100, is long discontinued. The WM-200 really is a substantial improvement. Tormek traditionally assigns a new number desighation to improved products. They ahould do that with the WM-200, maybe WM300 or WM201.

In fact, to really do things right, I would like to see an Anglemaster with only the numbers for side grinding. It would be a simple modification and would eliminate confusion.

The MB-100 scale on the updated AngleMaster is relevant only when the user is to sharpen with the MB-100, otherwise it is not. The updated version of the AngleMaster will therefore still be called WM-200.

Hi everyone,

This is my grandfather's old knife which I inherited when he passed away. I sharpened this together with my colleague and I can guarantee you that it is not photoshopped. The images were aligned since they were shot on different distances and different angles, this is probably what's fooling the eye.

Its a great idea for anyone doing volume sharpening that needs speed as well as accuracy and repeatability. 

It does bring to mind a question about the new Tormek diamond wheels.  Do they have abrasive on both sides of the wheel?  I've not looked at anything from Tormek about the new wheels and have not heard anyone mention anything about abrasive being on the inside of the wheel. 

Without it, it seems to me the two-sided angle guides will not work.  Unless one uses only the outside block and pulls the knive through from the front and back, which I wonder how well that could work, requiring clearance from the wheel for the handle and hand, let alone potential differences in grind characteristics given the different directions.

What diamonds are used: polycrystalline or monocrystalline?
What bonding is: nickel-electroplating or else?
What is the diamond layer thickness?
What warranty they come with - lifetime or ...?

The Tormek Diamond Wheels are constructed with a precision machined steel frame. The frame is coated with a single layer of diamond grit that is electrolytically anchored with nickel. The type of diamond we're using is confidential and cannot be shared publicly. The bonding is, like you (Wootz) is suggesting, nickel-electroplating. The diamond wheels are covered of the general Tormek warranty against peeling.

The life of the wheel is very much related to how it's used. It is very important to always apply a low pressure when sharpening. If you are sharpening with a new diamond wheel, a very low pressure should be applied. The diamond grits on a new diamond wheel are very sharp and sensitive to high pressure. We also recommend to always use water when sharpening with the diamond wheel, as it prolongs the life of the wheel and provides a finer surface. When you sharpen with water, remember to always use the ACC-150 Anti-Corrosion Concentrate in the water to prevent rust on the diamond wheel.

Are the T2 wheels the same manufacture, and would there be benefit to using them with water?
I can say, after getting a T2 that I got to try the other day, it really has put a smile on multiple faces.  Takes as much time to get it out and setup as it does to sharpen a knife that is just starting to get dull, and back to work in under two minutes.

We have several manufacturers for our diamond wheels. I cannot share any more information than that, I hope you understand.

The Diamond Wheels for the T-2 are intended to be used with the T-2, which is, as many of you know, especially designed for a specific target group (chefs and professional kitchens). The T-2 is designed to be used without water, and we have not tested the compatible diamond wheels with neither water nor the ACC-150 Anti-Corrosion Concentrate. Please note that the new diamond wheels for the T-8 (and previous larger models) has diamond also on the side and is tested for water sharpening (with the ACC-150). The diamond wheels for the T-2 has a label glued on the side and we do not know how water or other liquids might affect the glue.

Here's an update on the project:
The material is still in post production. The films will be released in shorter episodes, where the first episode is planned to be released sometime around June (I will get back to you when I have a confirmed date).

As Ken is mentioning, this is a joint project between Tormek and "Jaktkunskap" (Hunting Knowledge), a YouTube show that shares knowledge and stories relevant for hunters. We hope these films will help hunters discover Tormek and show them that Tormek is an alternative for keeping tools sharp. During filming, a lot of questions where answered. When the first episode is released, I will post answers for the questions that won't be covered in the episodes.
