Thanks Ken I suppose I was getting a bit frustrated so those words are very well received.  Not that I thought for a moment it was going to be easier but with the amount of money I have spent initially on theT7 I suppose I was a bit presumptuous to think everything would fall into place

Thanks Mike for your advice I will carry out those necessary checks.  At the end of the day go slowly and take off little metal at a time.

Mike you mentioned you use your turners kit for your gouges is that the SVD 185? and are those gouges straight gouges?  Why as I am having trouble sharpening my pfeil gouges especially the large sweeps

Is there anyone out there using the svs-32 jig to sharpen their pfeil straight gouges especially the large sweeps #9/#11 etc.  To me the jig doesn't seem to roll far enough to the left or right.  Also finding it hard to create a flat bevel. I keep the stone true etc but still end up with a uneven edge.  Its pretty good on the shallower sweeps.  Searched a few posts and Jeff had suggested trying the svs-50 I definitely will do that. Still quandering also over the idea whether or not the SVD-185 could be of any assistance for these deep sweep straight gouges.  Correct me if Im wrong but even though this is the prescribed jig its not always necessarily the one that works for the entire range especially gouges.  Mike you also made a good point at honing at to steep a angle, I was doing that and my edge was tearing.  Pfeil chisels in general seem difficult And I have nearly been through a couple and it takes a lot of practice especially your set up. Look forward to your suggestions

Thanks Mike I have taken on board your advice especially pertaining to honing.  What is the turning kit gouge?  Do you use this to sharpen your carving gouges?   I think at the end of the day to take my time and to take off as little metal as possible.     

Just wondering if anyone out there is using the SVD-185 for sharpening their 'straight' (not curved) Pfeil chisels.  I have been using the prescribed svs-32 although with not much success.  Been toiling around with the idea but not too sure. It looks as if it is possible

Yes these large pfeil sweep gouges (#9s) is somewhat an art.  Not for a minute did I think it was going to be easy without practice.  I think at the end of the day Stickan is to be extremely weary of the line of light etc.  I am obviously over grinding on a spot or it looks as if things are sharpened evenly but no (perhaps I am applying to much pressure on the wings).  Yes Ken I do use the profiled leather wheels on my t7 I find them usefull and once again things that seem obvious aren't  quite as it seems ie: applying honing compound. 

I am new also to the T7 Edgar and share the same thoughts as you particularly pertaining to pfeil chisels.  Yes the metal to me seems very fine or fragile.  Don't get me wrong they are excellent carving chisels.  I have nearly gone through 2 #9 sweep straight gouges in order to find a down pack system.  In saying that I still have not found a solid way of dealing with those big sweeps.  I have been using the specified svs-32 but with no real success.  I to have quandered about the possibility of using the svd-185 or the svs-50 multi jig.  It looks to me you can use the svs-50 in conjunction with the TTS-100.  Can you inform please if using the svd-185 is working for you especially pertaining to the straight large sweep gouges.

I am no expert although I would have thought Tormek would have some form of locking device for those handles surely. I am sure they spin slightly.  I would be interested also if there is a solution or a way around this matter.

Hello my name is Kara aka Kiwi from NZ.  I have had my Tormek T7 for 6mths and must admit I am very impressed.  But like anything it still takes a bit of practice.  My question is to do with my pfeil straight gouges #9/10 and #9/7.  Every time I try to sharpen them the wings or side edges break off. I am using the svs 32 which seems to work well for the flatter gouges but not so much for the more straight curved gouges such as the #9s.  I realise the metal is thin at the wing tips and the bevels have to be flat although once finished the whole bevel shape looks more like a semicircle.  Perhaps the SVD 185 could assist me better especially for the more 'curved' straight gouges and hopefully eliminate the torn wing situation I am experiencing. I also notice the svs 50 multi jig could be handy for these particular gouges.  Don't get me wrong this is an excellent machine your help and guidance would be most appreciated.
