Hi
Wipe off the belt dressing first. Now sand the the drive wheel with very fine sand paper ever so lightly.Shake up the belt dressing and put a small amount on the drive wheel.Don't confuse it with the mineral spirits.

The ones I own have  a 1" diameter shaft no handle. The way I did mine was free hand using the side of the wheel.Put black marker ink on the edge and duplicate the same angle.

I believe what they are worried about is over heating the steel. But since the Tormek is a water stone,(creating no heat)I believe you should not have any problems.Use 1000 grit and go slow and easy.

General Tormek Questions / varible speed motors?
February 25, 2006, 06:15:11 PM
Hello
Woodcraft makes a device that will make a router varible speed.Do you
think this would work on 1 x 30 cheapo belt sanders and small grinders?
Thanks,
Anything Sharp

General Tormek Questions / Lower grit wheel?
February 24, 2006, 04:10:35 AM
Jeff,
Do you think Tormek will ever come out with a lower grit wheel for more agressive work,(60,80) in my case like chipper blades for tree surgeons?
Thanks,
Ed

You say you dressed the drive wheel with belt dressing? As stupid as it sounds make sure  the wheel tight. Do you smell anything like a electrical burn? The motor can run at 158 degrees so it diffentally would be hot to the touch.Shut it off when actually not doing anything ,setting up jigs, etc. This will give it a cool down time.

I only use the Tormek compound. It hones very well,to a mirror finish. It also polishes  things well.

General Tormek Questions / Re:Stone Out Of Square

You are going to have to  grade the stone with the diamond cutter. With  the wheel right out of the box, it is not set up to your Tormek. If you don't have the diamond cutter yet,try the stone grader on 220 grit. Press as hard as you can.A 1/16 inch is a lot to ask the stone grader to do but give it a try.

Yes those knives can be done. When you get to the curve you have to lift up on the handle.Look at the vidio on Jeffs sight .Then practice on cheap knives. You will be amazed!

General Tormek Questions / Re:Stone failure

When I put mine together I used silicone on the shaft washers, and nuts.I just took it apart to see if there was any damage. There wasn't any.My Tormek is almost 1 year old, used almost every day. If you can make it out of stainless go ahead, but silicone on a new shaft is alot cheaper!
