I sometimes find it impossible to get the knife sharpening jigs far enough away form the stone, to give me a smaller angle on the edge.

I either need the guide bar to move further away from the stone, or have a longer stem on the knife jigs.

Please point out the error of my ways.  Thanks.

I neglected to "oil" the honing wheel, prior to the first use. Is there a way to get back to "square one", or will the wheel still function properly without the initial "oiling"?
