Knife Sharpening / Re: Japanese Knives

Hi,
T-2 is available in Sweden, Norway and France and is sold thru Kutlery/kitchen resellers, not our importers for T-8 and T-4.

Wood Turning / Re: Universal support

Hi,
Just som input regarding honing woodturningtools. Nick Agar, a very skilled turner, actually hone his tools instead of sharpening on the stone every time. Of course he needs to use the stone but with the leatherwheel and Tormek compund, he can keep the edge very sharp using the honingwheel a cople of times before he needs to use the stone.
This gives him less work with sandpaper as the last cuts are so fine.

Wood Carving / Re: Straight gouge -- which jig
November 14, 2016, 08:41:33 AM
As always, it depends of how much steel you need to remove. But normally there is not much and I think carving tools can/should take a bit longer to sharpen.
I sharpen carvingtools "in between" if its normal wear and always a very light pressure the last passes, works great for me.

General Tormek Questions / Re: water trough plastic

Hi,
Its made of Polystyrene. There is glue made specificly for this but I dont think it will work very well since there is always pressure and movement in the hinge.

Not UNobtainium... :-)

Hi,
You are using the correct jig but need some advice about how to sharpen the tool.
Please read and follow the instructions from page 108.

Hi,
The leatherwheel last for a long time, in some cases as long as the machine and other less. It depends of the user and environment but most often when someone buy a new honingwheel it's bacuse someone have used it towards the edge of a tool and cut it.

Wood Turning / Re: Turners, Tormek use question
September 28, 2016, 08:44:20 AM
Rob,
I understood that, my comment was to show that you can sharpen more than turning tools :-)
Supriclingly many Tormek owners dont think about all the other tools they can sharpen with this system.

Wood Turning / Re: Turners, Tormek use question

Every time I use it, I do sharpen all my dull stuff at the same time, and expecially for knifes and chisels, I use the honing wheel every time so I need to turn the machine,

Hi,
The T-8 has 7 years warranty in Sweden, its the same warranty globaly.
Even with the 3 extra years you got by register the machine, not many actually did.
And we have a generous warranty even after the 7 or 10 years was over so we found it ok to go back to 7 years.

The T-8 is as good as the T-7 and with some improvements even better so there is no question that the machines will serve for a lifetime.

Hi,
The new drivewheel fits older machines too. The new thing with the rubber is that its dated and has a Tormek logo on it. It accept very high temperatures.

The nylon drivewheel on T-7 is reinforced so they should not brake easliy. The main reason they get damaged is that the pins on the leatherwheel are not in the holes on the drivewheel so when the knob is mounted you get 3 pressure point on the nylon and its weakens the nylon after some years.
If the pins are in the holes it should last as long as the machine.

"In my understanding the T2 knife jig will work on T7 and T4 also, provided the USB is set properly. There may be a minor issue with the degree pointer. "

No, the jig is not only fixed with the supportbar, it is also set in the arm attached in the top of the machine. So there is no way to use it on a regular Tormek.

General Tormek Questions / Re: T4,T7 or T8

Hi,
I forgot to mention the tools itself can sometimes be tricky. A chisel or a plane blade can be tapered which many times can be hard to see or it can even be crocked after years of use.

Stig
