The length... of the clamp?

SVM-140? (https://www.tormek.com/international/en/grinding-jigs/svm-140-knife-jig/)

Sorry seems like I've posted in the wrong part of the forum.
Moderator please move to the knife sharpening part.

A pic might show better (https://i.ibb.co/4gZVqXX/small-knife.jpg)

Edwe, the knife point setting template was designed for projection length 139 mm which works fine for standard kitchen knives. For knives with narrow blades this projection length is too large. You can easily modify the template for example for a projection length 132mm. You draw a new straight line at 132 mm and a new circular arc which will be situated equidistantly below the original arc.

You accordingly change the USB set up. Let me know if you need some assistance.

P.S.: It is recommendable to reduce the size of attached pictures to some 600 x 600 pixels.  ;)

Jan,

Moses gave me a stone tablet marked "139 mm".......

Just kidding, of course. 139mm just happened to fall in the middle common range for me with 15° bevels. Wootz seems to gravitate toward 140mm. I attribute that to his being in the Southern Hemisphere.  :)

Edwe,

Once you understand the relationship of the three parts of the triangle, you can choose from whatever works.

Thanks all for your reply  :)

I thought I might build a Wootz setting knife block instead of this chema but I realy dont figure were the knife tip should be in his jig

Ken could you please develop the relationship of the three parts of the triangle?

The link in my "signature" below leads you to documentation about the jig setting.

Edwe,
Instead of trying to explain the parts of the triangle with my 50 year gap since high school math, you will be much better served by studyine the original source material linked by Dutchman. I believe you will find, as I did, that the time and concentration involved in studying Dutchman's work will be well rewarded. Print out the two items he links. A quiet cup of coffee and an hour will give you a new level of understanding.

Once you understand Dutchman's thoughts, you will be able to apply them to sharpening any tools. Your set up time will be much more efficient and your bevels will be more consistent.

Make the effort. You will not be disappointed.

Read it, looked at it an it to complicated for me at least.
Maybe a movie could complained it in another way.

Well this is a bit OT of the "lengt of the SVM-45 Jigg" so I'l ceep working.
Again thanks for all support

Off the record: I'm swede but have dutch parents :)

Edwe,

I had the same reaction the first time I read Dutchman's booklet. Dutchman did a good job of explaining; my brain was just out of condition. I persevered and eventually understood things. It was well worth the effort.

I recommend the same for you. If I could do it, so can you.
