Post by: onewaywood on December 16, 2009, 05:36:03 PM
Is there a special Jig or words of advice for sharping mini gauges, skews, etc.  ????
Or maybe it can't be done......

First I'll say that as a turner I have little use for "mini" tools.

As for the gouges, they can almost all be done with the SVD-185 if you remove the black ring on the clamping pad and get creative with the protrusion that you use.  Remember, you can use any protrusion that you like, as long as you do it consistently on the same gouge.

Very small skews can be done with the open seat instead of the closed seat, however I usually just freehand them on the side of the stone.

Or use the platform for small tools, maybe with some packing close to the wheel to allow the ferrule to clear.

Or just use the rod for support.
