Title: What jig will sharpen a 1 3/4" shallow roughing gouge?
Post by: Maui Mike on December 13, 2009, 11:14:43 PM
Aloha from Maui!

I have just purchased a Rude Osolnik 1 3/4" shallow roughing gouge and can't figure out if there is a Tormek jig that will allow me to sharpen it.  I have a Tormek T-3 with an SVD-185, a multi jig, and a SVD-110.  I am a newbie to woodturning and to sharpening.  Any ideas?

Mahalo,

Mike

It should fit in the SVS-50 Multi-Jig with the open seat.

Good morning Jeff!

The the gouge has a rounded profile rather than being straight across like most roughing gouges.  The SVS-50 will only allow a small portion of the bevel to contact the grinding wheel.  I took a photo of the gouge to help illustrate.  I can't figure out how to add it to this post, so will send it to your email address.

Hope this helps. Thanks for your help.
