Title: Out of shape grinding wheel
Post by: Ruairi on March 25, 2009, 12:11:41 AM
My grinding wheel was left in the water tray for some time and now it is 4mm out of shape when I turn it on. How can I fix this? Do I use the TT-50 (will this take too long) or should I just buy a new grinding wheel? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The TT-50 Truing Tool will take care of it.  But, the shape had nothing to do with being left in water.  The stone is completely waterproof and unaffected by immersion.

Thanks. I did not know that. How did it manage to go that far out of shape. (It was not used for a long period of time). Would it take a long time to grind the wheel back 4mm?

It's hard to say what caused it to go that far out. It can happen simply with normal use. 4mm sounds like a lot.  I would do it in about 3 or 4 passes with the TT-50.

I should also mention that using a stone that is just a little out of round accentuates the problem.  It just gets worse, never better.  You're much better off to true the wheel anytime you notice a tiny bit of "bounce".
