Hello, first timer here.
I inherited a model 2000 from my brothers estate. I noticed the grinding wheel had some lateral movement on the spindle, nut was not tight against the wheel. I shot The nut with some PB Blaster to free it up, but my problem is I don't see any way to hold the spindle from turning. Advice greatly appreciated.

The nut was backed off and the wheel was spinning free with about 1/8" lateral play. The nut was frozen and I couldn't determine where to lock the spindle to crank on the nut. Standard nut about 3/4 or the mm equivalent.
It's fixed now. Spent the last couple of hours sharpening chisels and block planer blades. Very nice machine.

Did that upgrade myself. Well worth the investment. Also put a dab if lithium grease on the bearings. Finally, always remove the wheel between sessions.

You really need to take care because you have the original steel main shaft. I would take both the grindstone and the honing wheel off, pull out the main shaft. Clean and lightly lubricate both the shaft and the bearings.
Don't leave water in the tray between sharpening sessions as it will wick up and rust that main shaft. The MSK-250 upgrade mentioned previously is a great upgrade because it's a stainless steel main shaft. Plus it has the EzyLock which allows you to remove the grindstone without any tools. Removing the grindstone between sharpening sessions, as has already mentioned, is a good idea, too.
You mentioned the play in the main shaft. New nylon bearings are inexpensive and easy to replace.
By the way, did you get a stone grader with the machine? It's a must-have.

Great catalogue as I am in process of upgrading My 2000 machine so many thanks. Have hit a snag with the AWT-250 it is a very tight fit. I have posted about it earlier today.
