Title: Drive wheel not engaging.
Post by: potentpotables on October 06, 2025, 02:32:03 AM
I have a Tormek T8 that is fairly new.

It was working when I packed it up to move houses. It was not working when I opened the package again.

Nothing seems to be damaged, but the friction wheel will no longer engage with the drive wheel. They are very close to each other but do not make contact.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, Dillon.

Your problem is generally corrected by removing the leather honing wheel and roughing up the rubber drive wheel a bit with abrasive paper to create more friction. This is covered in the handbook and several online classes. The good part is that I don't recall anyone needing to do it more than once.

Please let us know either way, whether it works or not.

Remove the drive wheel and make sue that the motor swings freely on its mount. Have a look inside at the motor mount pivot point. It sounds like something has been dislodged or even broken.
