Title: Where do you keep your jigs
Post by: greggy on July 17, 2025, 04:30:04 PM
Many years ago I made myself a small chest of drawers and put lockable casters on.
My machine sits on top and I do my grinding/ sharpening on that.
Now up to now all my jigs have been in the drawers and looking a mess.
But now I have made myself some foam inserts where you draw around your jigs and
then cut them out.
All in all it's cost me £15 for the foam from

I built a dedicated sharpening station in my basement shop using left over plywood, MDF, drawer slides, and handles from other projects.  I bought the counter top, sink, faucet, boiler, pump, and plumbing hardware.

My basement is below grade, so I had to add a boiler under the sink for hot water and a lift pump to pump the waste water above the connection to the drain.

I chose the internal width of each of the drawers to accommodate the inserts that came with most of the jig sets I bought.  Some of the jigs didn't come with inserts, so I made custom inserts using Kaizen foam.  Each drawer is longer than the insert, so I added a partition to keep the inserts in place and create another storage area in each drawer.

The T8 is stored on a slide out tray and moved to a drawer with heavy duty slides when needed.

The plywood tray remains in the drawer and has space beneath it for additional storage.

Nice work, MikeK. You've obviously put a lot of time, thought, and money into your sharpening. My set up pales in comparison.

Wow that is fantastic Mike K. Unfortunately I don't have the room to have something that big.

I did something similar but, maybe due to the weight, I never need to lock the castors. I also have a wet area similar to MikeK but mine is attached to the side of the shed bathroom.

My drawers match the other shed drawers (router table, drill press stand, et el) and are slightly wider than the Tormek inserts so I use shadow foam to fill in the sides and place misc jigs in the shadow foam. The whole shed is a work in progress but organisation is coming slowly and surely :)
