Title: Cleaning the honing wheel
Post by: huntrashmi on August 13, 2024, 12:40:27 PM
Hi everyone,

I bought a used T-4 and I suspect the previous owner used too much oil and/or honing compound. The honing wheel is pitch black and leaves a horrible mess every time I use it - leaving a thick layer or residue on my tools and sticky crumbs all around the T-4. Is there any way to clean up the honing wheel? I tried an old eraser, with little to no effect.

Any tips are much appreciated!

I occasionally use the edge of a piece of steel and any excess comes right off. If you have an old kife the spine will work.
