Hi I have just bought a used 2000 tormek. It is in good condition but has not been used for a long time. I noticed that the stone was not true so thought I would true it up with the truing jig( the one you push across).
I filled the trough up with water several times, I guess the stone was absorbing it and started to try and true the stone up - only to manage to cut several grooves in the stone- please can someone offer me some help and advice. I do not have a manual. Does the stone need to be run in water for a sertain period after non use. what is the correct speed feed to true it up. I have removed the grooves with the grading stone but obviously need to true it up.
The grindstone will absorb a tremendous amount of water if it is completely dry (which happens after a few days of not being used). A slow feed rate across the stone will yield a better finish, but you've already arrived at the answer. After truing the wheel, use the coarse side of the Stone Grader to knock down any high spots. That process will not drastically alter the trueness of the wheel, just its surface condition.
By the way, you were using the stop bar with the diamond cutter, correct?

Do not use the truing tool (ADV-50D) without using the stop bar. Look in the Owner's Handbook for details on how to use the truing tool. It will have pictures and illustrations of the stop bar and its relationship to the cutter.
