Title: Leather wheel dressing
Post by: Ianb on December 10, 2021, 10:45:56 AM
I did read the leather honing wheel needs an oil dressing first. It mentioned an oil I have not heard off, what would be a substitute please?

Any light oil will do, something like pure liquid paraffine has the advantage of being food-safe.
I use Ballistol, which is also non-toxic.

Sewing machine oil or 3 in 1 oil

I might be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that 3-in-1 or the like would dessicate the leather...

Food grade mineral oil similar enough?  Not completely sure.  I have use composite honing wheel exclusively so far.
