Hello.
Could you explain how to sharpen this leather knife on the Tormek?
Sharpco,
I'd use the SVM-140 and clamp it with the handle parallel to the jig's shaft.

Thank you Mike,
Can I set a low enough angle that way?
Sharpco,
as that blade is way wider than most kitchen knives, I'd say 'yes' with some confidence ;)
(I'd try to use the chisel jig instead, if the handle was removable, but that won't be the case, I suppose.)

I'll try. :)

Why the 140? Not saying you're wrong... just can't picture it.

Hello.

What about just using the guide bar (USB), with the handle up against it (in other words no jig)?

Hello.
Because it may not be parallel.

Maybe that knife is wider than I'm picturing?
If it's not wider than a wheel, making it parallel shouldn't be that difficult.
Any idea how it was sharpened before?

CB,
just a quick'n'dirty sketch, without knowing the real dimensions, but it may show what I was thinking of.

I expect that knife isn't wider than a wheel. But I have to pass for even wear of wheel. ;D
Personally I wouldn't care for even wear of the wheel when sharpening a single special knife.
Oh, and did you notice the inscription: "Fortis Fortuna Adjuvat" - fortune favours the brave! A special message for the sharpener... :D ;D

This is what came to my mind. I suspect the protrusion would be too great, but maybe the USB can be raised high enough to compensate.

Or this. Here the protrusion is likely way too short, but it is a way to hold it like the square edge jig does.

Worth a try. One thing that concerned me about this method, or any using either of the SVM jigs, is keeping the face of the bevel square and straight. That is why I like better the idea of clamping flat bars across the back of the blade, but the short protrusion remains a problem.
After a little thought and digging around my shop, this is what I've come up with.
Long, flat plate with a fence clamped at the top to guide the setup along the USB, keeping it all square, without pivoting or lifting. The thicker, smaller plate at the bottom is to allow clamping the knife's blade against, which would be captured by the two clamps there. The knife and fence can be squared up using small squares. The longer plate provides enough protrusion to achieve a shallow enough angle, in combination with the USB height. The sharpie represents the leather knife. Some type of small "C" clamps would work. The aluminum angle is a cutoff from a longer bar bought at a hardware store. The long, flat plate doesn't have to be metal (actually none of it does), just sturdy enough to maintain shape and stay relatively flat.
