I have these streaks on my stone (pic attached) is this normal?
How often do you have to true the wheel....I know you do it when it is not flat....just looking for guidance as I sharpened about 10 chisels and the left side got pretty low....had to true the wheel.
Thanks

Hello,
it looks like traces of rusted carbon steel particles in the stone, which appeared some time after grinding. IMHO it is normal.
When needed, but probably better a little earlier than late, when stone completely loses its ideal shape. IMHO it is individual and it depends if you are satisfied with results, how many stones you are using for grinding, what do you plan to grind next (eg. not so important for rough grind or profiled tools as roughing gouges which makes grooves in the stone).

Thank you for your insight. I truly appreciate it

Nany try and save the stone by delaying the truing step. When they finally true the stone it is necessary to do many passes to get the stone round. In the long run I do not think you are saving any stone by delaying the truing step. I do mine when I feel I can clean it up in 2 or so light passes.
Thank you John...I'll keep your suggestion in mind.
