Title: Optimum Sharpening height stand
Post by: glbobb on October 13, 2006, 03:38:27 PM
 ???
I am building a new work bench with a pull out shelf for my tormek.  What is considered the optimum height from the floor to use for a stand?  I have heard quite a few different heights, but am interested in feedback here from users with their experiences.

thanks in advance.

Depending on your height, you want the top of the machine frame between your belt buckle and your navel for working on straight edges with the Universal Support in the vertical mount. It will also work for  turning tools in the horizontal mount at that height, but it can be more comfortable to have it a few inches (5 to 6) higher.  In the New Yankee Workshop design, the stand has a pull out step for vertical sharpening, which gets pushed back in for horizontal sharpening.
