i use 1micron to deburing (monocrystalline diamond) and 0,5 for polish polycristalline
both works perfect.

I gought a new leather wheel for use with 1µ spray. I do not have a tester but subjectively each knife I have used the second honing wheel on seems sharper.

I have a recollection that Wootz mentions in his book that leather doesn't hold on to diamonds as well as felt.  So it will work, but require reapplication more often than felt...

Kingsley North Lapidary, sells an extender fluid, to apply on leather honing wheels to extend life of diamond products.

1.0 micron diamond paste on the leather wheel here, and quite a lot of it.
Works like a charm.

u can use 2 leatherwheels with 250mm diameter at the same time with different coating. first with 1 micron diamondspray to deburr and second with 0.25 diamond to polish or chromiumoxide 0.3

Impregnate wheel with oil first or not?
Recomended brand of paste?
Thanks

I think the answer is to always impregnate the leather wheels with oil first. Otherwise the oil will get drawn out of your paste...

Regarding which to buy, THK is a good one. Ships from Hong Kong but very quickly.

I have been using 2 wheels lately with good results. First one uses Tormek paste after sharpening and the second with 1µ diamond.

Is there a sharpness improvement by finishing at 0.25µ?
